Hey guys, just bought a 2002 honda accord ex v6 with about 131000 miles on it. It is an automatic. I'm not sure if the timing belt has ever been replaced, and I know that it is called for at 105,000 by the maintenance schedule. I called my regular mechanic about doing the timing belt in the accord. He is not a big name mechanic just does a solo shop and I trust him with all my major honda car work.
Anyways, after I asked him if he would do my timing belt, he told me that he could not do a v6 timing belt because he would need a special tool.. I've had him do many 4 cylinder timing belts in civics, but never a v6 in an accord.
Is the special tool he is talking about the crank pulley holder? Or is there more to this than I think?
Is the v6 really a difficult timing belt to do compared to 4 cylinder models?
He is aging a little so maybe he is avoiding the hard work. Just wondering your opinions.
Thanks for any info.

This is pretty much what you would need if you did it in your garage. Nothing really special.
Crank Holder, Impact Gun, Serpentine belt tool, Battery Tie down tool, Lots of different sockets, swivels, extensions, wrenches, etc., Jack+Block of wood

Pretty much everything a mechanic would have besides the special crank tool. Thanks for your info, thats pretty much what I thought. I was just making sure that there wasn't something I was missing.

Is there a hydralic timing belt tensioner in the v6's? He said something about a tool that is used on that. I don't really know how it would be used, and I'm not really sure if this is true.
