I have a manual transmission on the d17 soc non v tech engine. It has been making a whineing sound (kind of like a wind up toy car, or the type you pull backwards to wind it up). Granted it has 255 k miles on it. Should I look at the input shaft bearing, or a rebuild?

rebuild. sounds like your bearings are bad. does it only do it when in gear or through out all of its normal operation?

 

Only in gear, most prevelent in 1st,2nd, 3rd. If you step on the clutch it dissapears.

 

one of the guys who came to my house had the same issue, ended up being the countershaft bearing
