Default 93 accord, rpm's surge, car false starts

93 accord lx, auto

sometimes after driving for awhile and putting it in park, the rpm's will surge from about 1000-1500 and drop consistently. replaced the tps sensor already on the throttle body, but still surges. no vacuum leaks or anything, and not throwing a cel.

also, seems like it might be related, sometimes after i start it after i've been driving awhile, the car will start, but not make it over 1000rpm and just die. then it won't fire or anything for a few minutes. a couple of instances, it would be 15 minutes or so. two of those times, after the false start, the drive 4 light will flash (the one time i drove it with it flashing, there was no 3rd or 1st gear). i restarted the car after that, and it went away and all gears were going as if nothing ever happened. theres no problems with this tranny, it slips sometimes, but it's not beat up.

anyways, any clues as to where to start with either problem? for the D4 light flashing, i figure it was a small electrical blip that isn't permanent.

I just had to replace my eacv. I took a chance and bought one off ebay for 40 plus 10 shipping and it fixed my surge I had started to get after I cleaned out my eacv while it was still hot. I think I ****ed up the internal seals and the valve by spraying carb cleaner in it while it was hot.

The way you can test it is to take off the intake tube while being sure you have the vacuum line still plugged in that runs from the throttle body to the t-fitting near the battery and unplug the eacv connector then feel the port on the top of the throttle body after starting the car. It should not be sucking air. If it is, then your eacv is open which it shouldn't be. TBH I haven't checked mine to see if it is completely closed but I think it is since my idle is perfect now.

You can get a brand new eacv at from amazon for about 195 or you can try to take a chance off getting a used one from someone at ebay. I would say find someone that'll let you return it if for a refund if it doesn't work. I noticed they are almost impossible to find at the junkyards.

This is OP

I figured it would have to be something related towards that (engine sucking in more air than it should, dropping rpm's), but couldn't figure out what it would be other than a vacuum leak (there are none).

Thanks for the input. Gonna have to check it out
