Default What kind of paint over rustoleum?

Hey everyone, I painted my integra using the rustoleum method about 2 years ago and overall was satisfied. The only problem was that I chose "Smoke Gray" for the color which ended up looking like primer. So now I want to paint my car semi-gloss white or gloss white.

Im willing to do this paint job with a roller or with a sprayer, but want to find out what paints are compatable over rustoleum.

Im assuming rustoleum could be painted right over the old paint job with minimal sanding.

What about boat paint?

And what about different types of auto paint with a primer?

You cant paint over rustoleum. You will have to remove all of it before you use auto paint.

A couple years ago I decided to paint my car with rustoleum just to make it look more uniform (the body panels were all different colors before from dent removal). I used flat black stuff that said it was industrial strength; it hasnt chipped anywhere in all these years, but I'm planning on painting over it with real paint....do you really need to remove all the rustoleum? I know with auto paint you can just remove all gloss and clean it up and go right over.
Sorry to thread jack...but I think we're in a similar boat here.

I had the front end of my old EF painted with rustoleum, i wanted to have my car painted professionally and was told by two places to remove the paint before they can paint it.

It has to do with the type of paint being painted over, some will adhere to different auto paints, some wont.

Thanks for clearing that up...looks like it's time to break out my dual action sander!
