Which shop in N. Cali would you guys recommend for ZC swap?
Hi Guys,
I had a CRX 15 years ago when I was first going to college and now want to buy one strictly as a fun commuter car. That being said, can you guys recommend the best shop in the Bay Area to handle a ZC motor swap? I'm mainly looking for a shop that does clean work but doesn't charge an arm and a leg and is willing to stand behind their work. I plan to do other future upgrades, so I want a shop I can build a relationship on. TIA.
BTW, does buying an HF model + ZC motor make any sense for a fun commuter? Just want to make sure before I start purchasing the car, wheels, etc... haha.

The ZC motor is a VERY good choice for the CRX if you cannot afford to go B-Series, it's inexpensive, drops straight in and wires up with minimal problems. as for performance, from personal experience the swap provided enough power to keep up with a B16's swapped into similar chasis, and absolutely punish SOHC in Vtec and non-vtec variants, hell I even peeled off on a LS swapped CRX as well but I was a far better driver so maybe...Still, all in all, if you want to put PEP into your Rex's step for cheap then yea, ZC.
By the way, KEEP THAT HF exaust manifold, if you decide u wanna go turbo later it will be essential, as all you have to do is buy an adapter plate and a turbo and that thing'll bolt RIGHT UP and serve right for a Junkyard or Official turbo kit. I boosted my stock ZC up to 10lbs with the same method, ran strong, only sold it because I'm about to Do an H23/Turbo in a 91-Dx Hatch.

LSx or go home.
Since this was moved to GDD I am sure the OP will never post again.
If he does, just do the swap yourself. Its not worth paying a shop for it.

I created this thread years back in the norcal hondamarketplace... Most of the shops on the list are still open for business:

Now that this thread is back where it belongs, hopefully, I can get more useful answers. I am trying to put together a cheap, reliable, fun to drive commuter. I am not looking for horsepower but a little pep wouldn't be too bad. What has drawn me into wanting a CRX is that they are really cheap on Craigs ($2K to $2,500), ZC motors only cost around $450, and I've gotten quotes for about $600 to $800 to install the engine. I just want to make sure I don't go around buying stuff that won't pass smog, won't work, or give me any type of headaches in the future... I work full time and don't have time to do this myself since I have other cars, other hobbies, and would rather hang out with my own family. Right now, I am currently commuting in my 2008 Mini Cooper S turbo, but don't want to rack on too many miles.
