strange "clanking" noise when the engine is under load please help
The car is an 89 civic si with the stock a6
This just started happening about three weeks ago. When I'm going up a hill or in a higher gear at a lower speed and try to accelerate I get a strange clinking noise. It dosnt sound like the rattle you would hear if an exhaust shield were lose if sounds like it may be something internal
Like I said it dosnt happen happen unless there's more load on the engine. I.e when in nuetral and I rev it I don't hear the noise.
I searched and couldn't find much except possibly detonation. Does this sound right? And how would I check for it or repair it? Just adjust the timming if needed.
Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated please keep the bs out.

Check your timing belt. it could need tesion. my hatch was make a similar noise because the timing belt had to much slack.

I can't really because like I said it won't make the noise if there is no load on the engine and I'm thinking my car will be to loud to be able to hear it on video but I'll give it a shot...
Thanks for the input guys I don't believe it to be valve ticking it doesn't quite sound like that
I'm going to check the timing here soon I'll keep this updated if I figure it out

could also be spark knock. check the gap on ur plugs/or change them. its happened to me before and iv changed them and it went away. now i run NGK plugs havent had problem for a while now.
Exhaust if it isnt pinging or detonation
Under load that thing is virbrating quite a bit.
Check your engine mounts. the extra vibration from high load might be causing lots of movement, causing the exhaust noise.
Also, moving exhaust= chance of hitting bottom of shifter in a manual car
