Default Getting Coilovers for DD....these are my options?

Hey everyone, so i posted before and only one person responded and i didn't really know what i wanted and i also decided to change from going with shocks and springs to coilovers.

Its a 92 civic Si hatch on stock suspension and motor. Hoping for both to change soon. This is for Daily Driving. I plan on dropping around 2 inches a little less or more. 2 finger gap or something like that, maybe 1.5

Suspension is a dire need right now and will hopefully decide by Monday to make my order. These are the options i am leaning towards:

Koni yellows/ GC - good thing is adjustable all around, great product and lifetime warranty, i already have a set on my other car but this is for DD. Problem is my friend that assembled them is gone and i know they are a pain in the ***. Im trying to find someone in Miami that can assemble them well with no mistakes. That or pay 200 extra and get all the top hats that are unnecessary for my DD with a decent drop.

PIC Performance- Heard good things about them, would go with the 8k 6k springs but no lifetime warranty and it is a very small company but they look gorgeous and i hear good things about them.

Function and Form F1 or F2- good price for the F1 and had one sponsored seller recommend them. F2 are fully adjustable.

I was thinking D2's but i heard they are not so good compared to these as well as the Ksports lower end model not the ones that cost 1000 and are for racing.

Hope you guys can help, im trying to set up a poll. I saw a similar one but still every situation is different thanks in advance

If it's a dd why not just go with some lowering springs and shocks? Just wondering

I would take d2 off the list.

But you cant really go wrong with koni/gc and PIC other then picking the wrong rates. Function&form is also pretty good for a daily driver.

Keep in mind that a sponsored seller may try to persuade you one way or another based on his profit margins and what exactly he stocks.

I'd go with the Koni & GC combo. Koni makes great, adjustable shocks with alot of flexibility. The adjustable spring perch is an awesome feature if you ever want to run OEM springs. The lifetime warranty doesn't hurt, either.

If you do decide to go with Koni's, be 100% certain that the retailer is willing to send you a receipt with them. It's very hard to file a warranty claim with no proof of purchase/receipt. THMotorsports is probably the cheapest place to order them, but they do not send receipts. They also lie, but that is another story for another day.

There is alot of info out there on this subject, and many similar threads. There really is no correct answer...

I want the adjust ability of coilovers, and as said they last in the long run. The DD might become something more later in the future, plan on holding on to this car for a while.

Yea i love how the PICs look but i stated my cons on there.

Dont know much about FF, it was just an option given.

D2 isnt considered anymore

Springs and shocks can last just as long as coilovers if not longer. But anyways, As he said there really is no right answer to this, its just what you want.

My vote is for the koni/ ground control.

koni sports and gc's, just put some thought into your choice of rates before you order.

I have dealt with THM before and they were very good with their service. What do you mean by them lying. I do have the email receipts of my previous suspension coming but i could ask for a receipt if i order from them.

yea i was probably gonna go with the recommended rates for street only from THM's post for their sale of the stuff. It wont be slammed so it doesn't need to be that stiff.

In fear of derailing this thread thread, I'll keep it brief.

I placed two separate orders with them totaling around $1k. A set of Koni Sport shocks, a Koyo Radiator, Samco Hoses, and I don't remember what else. I was lied to on three separate occasions.

1. I was told that my Koyo Radiator included a radiator cap. I specifically asked if one was included because, if not, I needed to purchase one. My radiator showed up with no cap.

2. I contacted Ed via HT PM and was offered a cap free of charge because he recognized his mistake. Cap never showed up.

3. I was told that my receipts were being sent seperately via Fed-Ex. They never showed up.

Because a radiator cap is worth a mere ~$25, I didn't push the issue beyond that. I bought one locally, same day. I wouldn't say they scammed me, but they definitely could have handled the situation a bit better.

The part that irks me the most is their inability to send me a freaking receipt! Part of the reason I went with Koni Sports was for the lifetime warranty, which I will need a receipt, should I ever need to file a claim.

A mans word says alot about his character. I have no respect for somebody who makes promises they do not intend to keep. I will not spend another dime with THMotorsports.

Sorry to hear about that, well i cant say that i had a bad experience with them, i dealt with Nick and am dealing with him now. He seems pretty cool

I am leaning toward the Koni with GC but now i have to think if i want to just get their top hats or really go through the BS of getting mine off and reusing them.

They never offered that as an option. When I called, they assured me that they were sending my receipts via FedEx.

It may sound like I am being difficult here, but I feel like the damage is already done. I've already taken it as a loss and moved on.

TBH, if I wasn't lied to three separate times, I wouldn't be so angry about it.

quit being a cry baby, call them up and say the fed ex receipt didn't come and ask if they can provide tracking, if they don't ask for an emailed one. you'll be happy you did if a shock ever leaks

Was that really necessary? As I said, the damage is done and I've moved on. Its been over a year. I'm not wasting any more time dealing with them.

If one of my Koni's ever leaks, I will have them re-valved by somebody with access to a shock dyno. I've outgrown my current setup anyway...

yes, it was, you spent more time typing out those posts than it would have taken you to be pro active and settle your dispute. "damage is done" in a situation like this is seriously whiny cry baby talk.

You do not know enough about the situation to judge me like that. I made several attempts. When a company stops responding to your PM's, and outright lies to get you off the phone, what is the point?

I took the time to type out that post hoping that it might save somebody else a headache. He asked, I elaborated.

I've always thought of you as one of the few positive contributors in the technical forums on HT. I am not sure what you are on about here, but you really need to stop assuming and judging me over a situation you know very little about.

Stay classy with the pointless name calling.

it's not even personal per se, i mean i don't have any reason to dislike you. it's just not all that uncommon for companies to do this. when they do you have to be pro active and ride their ***. sometimes it's the only way to get what you want and in the end getting what you need in your hands is what really matters

when you get down to it you basically got frustrated and gave up. all i'm saying is doing this still doesn't provide what you really needed.

I voted other because Koni/GC is a great setup, but for the price have you looked at Progress?

"i don't care how my car handles and only want to be made fun of for dumping my car"

is that more or less it?

I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but we send an itemized receipt, via email, to each and every customer that makes a purchase from us. The receipt is essential in making a warranty claim with koni. In rare cases, the email may never reach the customer, possibly because we input the email incorrectly, or outlook just decides to stop working lol. In any case, we try our best to rectify the problem.

I have had customers call up to a year, or more later, after purchasing konis from us, asking for another receipt. 9 times out of 10, it is very easy to pull up an old order and re-send the receipt.

Re-touching on what the OP stated, I do my best to recommend a suspension setup based upon the customers needs, not my margins. I have a good idea of what works, and what doesn't. I have had several hondas, and many different suspension setups on them, and I do my best to pass on the knowledge I have learned over the years.

If anyone ever has any problems with our company, or suspension, feel free to email, call or PM me

Thanks in advance,

Nick
