Car audio shop did a crappy job on my 2000 SI
The new Jenson radio rattles like crazy on rough roads and even at idle. When I went back today to see if they could fix it they didn't seem very confident. I did a little research and now I question if they used the best mounting method.
The stock radio mounts solidly in the center HVAC stack with screw holes in the sides of the radio. I think that's called an ISO mount. The installation shop used a DIN kit and they put in a backstrap. The Jenson installation instructions say the radio has the screw holes in the chassis for ISO mounting.
Would an ISO mounting kit work better? Is it as simple as bolting the Jenson into the stock Honda brackets? I see Metra has multi kit that says it fits the 2000 Honda 2-door coupe and it has ISO brackets that bolt to the radio sides. The radio shop gave me back the original radio and side mounting brackets, so I still have them.
I'm sort of conflicted about allowing the radio shop to try and fix the rattle and I'm looking for some advice about the best way of installing the Jenson in the 2000 SI.

Dale the ISO holes on the Jensen typically match those of a Toyota or a Nissan vehicle (the most common users of that system). In the case of your car, you would have to drill new holes in your oem mounts (metal brackets) to make it work. Most of the Honda multi kits are "press fit" into the dash opening. Without being there or seeing it its hard to determine what the best course of action.
You paid for a service so they "should" fulfill it to your satisfaction. I don't know all the back story so I can't comment on your situation. I do know that service expectations differ from competitor to competitor (hell even within the same company)-all you can do is ask that they make it right to your satisfaction.
Good luck

I fixed the radio today. The holes in the radio matched the OEM brackets perfectly. The whole business bolted up like it was on the factory assembly line. For the life of me I can't understand why the shop did the way they did. They actually did more work to turn out a poor job.
