Default Tranmission help!!

Something is wrong with my transmission. When I'm driving the car hard, my gears begin to stick and it's hard to put it into gear. And when I do get it into gear, it's hard to take it out. For example when I'm red lining 3rd to go to 4th, it feels as if I'm hitting a wall with the shifterbefore it let's me go into gear.

Any ideas?

I'm about to do a full transmission flush and clutch flush with new dot 3 fluid and GM syncromesh. I have never change these before an my car is at 65k now and making 500 hp.

Hope that helps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Inspect the shift linkage bushings as well.

If they're good and a fluid change doesn't fix the problem, it may be something internal.

All those could be possible causes and more... from things that aren't common like a mount that throws the linkage out of alignment under engine load/rocking or bent shifter forks/interlock/shift rod, to more common things like gunked up fluid making it hard for the forks to push the synchro hubs into place. And that's not even getting into the clutch and related components.

I'd proceed with changing the MTF and doing a quick visual inspection of a few things like: slave cylinder (remove boot), clutch fluid level and operation, shift linkage bushings & retaining hardware, and the shifter itself. You can even move the shift linkage manually (in/out and rotation) while looking for loose parts, just keep in mind that the gears are sort of "backwards" when you're under there.

One last thing, make sure you use Synchromesh Friction Modified.

no there havent been any strange noises. i just changed all the fluids tonight (clutch and transmission).

i have problems especially with my 4th gear. sometimes it feels like im hitting a wall when putting into 4th and when it does go in, it doesnt want to come out...

i will drive the car around for a bit and see if the fluids flush helps though.

hope that extra info helps

I too had a spring on the stock clutch disk pop out and it was hard to get in/out of gear...good thing I was able to make it to the shop.

if you have weaker syncro's in certain gears those gears would be harder to get into. i felt 1-2 upshift would be harder, but was very knotchy in every gear

whats the mileage on your clutch and what brand is it?

i would pull the slave boot off and inspect the fork while you step on and off the clutch to see if your getting full travel. that would eliminate slave, master or any part of the hydraulic system

this is my guess on why you have a short transmission life. it might be time to talk with m factory for a build

i changed with gm synchromesh and it helped out. tranny shifts better but still grinds 2,3,4 occasionally when driving hard and the wall is still there on heavy driving.

I am probably going to need a new set of synchros for my ITR from what people have told me.

I saw that gear-speed sells a 1-5 synchro set for the ITR. Would I need new sleeves and synchro springs as well?
