Gear knob fell off - where does the spring go?
While cleaning the gear ****, it magically fell off. (see picture)
I've been trying to put it back together, but can't figure out where the spring goes (what's its purpose anyway?). I know the white plastic piece has to be in a certain position so that the gear **** goes down all the way to the screw hole, but no matter what I tried, with the spring in place it won't reach to the screw hole.
Any ideas?
Thank You

Spring goes at the tip of the chrome/blue piece, you need to keep it pressed and insert it inside the ****, and place the **** back on the shaft that you change gears. be sure to installe the white piece back, and remember to use the 2 small philips screws on the sides of the ****.
My chrome button would pop out sometimes when changing gears usally after backing up. I sanded the rough tips of two little phillips heead screws and never had the problem again. Keep this in mind if yours pops out.
Hi Tom, your post came up when I was doing a google search for the same issue. I have all the 4 pieces as shown in the above picture, but I can't still figure out how everything fits together. I placed the spring inside the know and then placed the chrome/blue piece on top of it. But what is holding the chrome/blue piece in place? Your input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Manoj
