1999 Civic SiR block swap
hello folks,
Well I have a 1999 Civic SiR (Canada), or, Civic Si as it is known in the U.S., and I have an easy question that I cant really find an answer to. I would like a bit more power while staying naturally aspirated. Would it be possible to replace the b16a2 block I currently have in the car with say, a B18C1 or C5, with little more than replacing the ecu, and of course the block? or would there be other items that I would have to consider replacing?
if that is the case, is there a reputable shop that will sell JUST the block/ecu combo?

Companies like Hmotors will sell longblocks and ECUs.
I can't think of anything, as far as parts go. If you get a B18C (non Type R, from a Si VTEC or SiR-G Intergra in Japan) you will need to run a couple wires from the IAB to the ECU.
That's all I can think of, it's a basic engine swap. Maybe someone else will come up with something that I missed.
But of course it makes sense to repalce the timing belt, water pump, tensioner etc.
Good time to get a new clutch and resurface the flywheel also.

I am currently refreshing a 2000 JDM B18C ITR for my 2000 EM1, it's pretty much plug and play. It uses all of the same sensors, same dizzy and for the ecu, i am running a 98 spec P73 with obdIIB to obdIIa harness jumper to make that plug and play as well. I didn't want to mess with the immobilizer of the newer ecu
With a couple bolt on's i have, i expect about 210hp, and 140ft lbs tq, a very very good upgrade to the B16A!!! The 98 + ITR S80 tranny's are also 4.7 final drive gearing with LSD which adds to the experience, along with a 8.8lb Pro Lite flywheel i picked up for quick spool up

What's better then, the b16a2 tranny (S4C) mated to a B18c(5), or the 4.7 FD B18c(5) tranny mated to a B18c(5)?? I've heard many times of guys mating a GSR engine to a S4C tranny because of the higher gearing, and therefore faster acceleration over the stock GSR engine.
Higher FD will always give better acceleration. The S4c is a great tranny, and has a lower 4.4FD and no lsd on usdm versions
I had the syncro's replaced on the itr tranny, and swapped the 5th gear for an LS version so i can still drive on the hiway
The only reason there aren't more swaps of the 4.7FD tranny's, are because they are rare!! Only 98+ ITR (maybe CTR as well) had them!

You can switch longblocks without changing anything else at all. Your current ECM will run an ITR motor with no issues.... although I would recommend using the correct ECM.
