Icon6 So, will I be able to change shocks/struts myself?

I have a 97 Accord and it needs new shocks & struts so I figure his is a good time to put a new set on and maybe add some springs for a 1/2-1" drop.

A guy at a local shop told me he can get the new shocks/struts/springs ready for me to put on @ $10.00 a piece, then I can put them on myself. I have messed with cars before but never with rims, suspension, brakes, etc, what can I mess up?

Also, I am looking aTokico set of springs/shocks/struts for around $400. I would like only a slight drop but the guy said I would have to get a 1" drop, so?

Oh yeh, I also figures while I have everything off, I might as well add the new brake rotors and pads the car needs, is this difficult?

It's simple, but it can quickly turn into a bitch if the bolts are frozen.
Do you know anyone that has done this before?
I think theres some diy's about this hear, but you might as well pick up a hanes sence you want to do breaks yourself.
Both can be done with hand tools, but i reccomend getting a impact screw driver for the rotor screws.

Theres only a few bolts on each side and the shock comes out, so it isnt to difficult but it pays to have some experince with a car.. Spray all the bolts with pb blaster or something and let it sit for a while before you go at it..

Also take a look at the eibach pro kit or sport kit.

Thanks for the help.

I do not know anyone who has done this. I had the car jacked up yesterday to try and replce an o2 sensor and saw everything in the wheel well and besides rust and tough looking bolts on the arm, it did not look to difficult, I mean what can I screw up?

I have a small private Honda shop 3 miles down the road in case it gets out of control, and I have a pickup to drive in case I jack it up big.

Right now, my brake goes close to the floor to stop the car and I HATE IT! What will need replaced to get that firm feel?

Also, is there anyway to get only 1/2" drop or so to the car. I might buy 16-17" rims but I do not want that "lowered" look, just to have the car slightly lower like some of the new sedans on the road.

Really the only thing you can mess up is rounding off bolts and or breaking them.

Check and see if you have break fuild and then bleed them.

I belive the eibach pro kit does about a 1/2 inch drop.

Is their any cheaper spring kit that rides nice with a 1" drop?

I do not want people to look at my car and say "wow that is slammed", I just want a racier look like the later model Lexus, Benz, etc.

There arent any spring and shock kits cheeper that i know of.
I would have no problem buying the eibach kit, they are top of the line.

Thanks for all the help.

So who has the best prices online for Eibach and Tokico products? eBay does not look bad but I am not sure I have enough in Pay Pal to cover it.

The springs/shocks are pretty straightforward. As for the brakes, being a hub over rotor, you'll have to take off the axle nut, pull off the knuckle, and press out the bearing to switch out the rotor.

Don't be so conservative when it comes to lowering the Accord. I have a 2 inch drop on mine, and it's nowhere near slammed. I still have a gap between the tires and fenders.
