Today my car starting giving me trouble going into gear. I have to force it to go in gear, and sometimes it wont. It wont go into reverse at all. I lifted the car up and inspected the shift linkage. The stabilizer bar bushing was a lil worn so i put a new one on. That changed nothing.. Then i saw that my dust seal was ripped in half. Could that be the problem?

dust seal, as in the rubber boot that covers the plastic thing on the ball of the shifter
