Default Time for a new motor

Passed inspection today, so I figured it's time to start spending some real money on the car..

First things first, fix the leaks..

Okay, second.. I'm sick of the d15b7, some said it would be fast at first- it was never fast, and there are too many hills around here.. Sick of having to downshift to 2nd..

Found an alright deal on a ls engine, except I don't know what I need.. I'll (hopefully) be doing this swap with a friend so I'm not completely on my own.

Alright, so I was thinking about just finding a cheap b16 because I'm not sure how big I wanna go. I mean like I say I want something quicker, but I'm worried that if I go with a 1.6 then I'll want to go bigger, and bigger. That's why I turned away from a mini-me swap (although I would love the experience and knowledge of opening up a motor etc)..

So, I guess my question is, what does everything think would benefit me the most, and what would I need?

i know the b16 is only going to give you like 15 more tourqe so if hills are your worst fear i would look into somthing a lil bigger.

That ^^^

go 1.8 if you want torque, and depending on if you want to stay NA, maybe even 2.0(b20).

If you go to the sticky at the top of the forum, there is a section for engine swaps.

i just look at b20 as a huge engine, i could be wrong but it seems like it's too much for me? correct me if i'm wrong.. i mean like, i'd love to drop one in, but is it expensive compared to a 1.6? i'll be n/a for a bit, but def turbo in the future, how near? idk..

hills are the biggest problem for me, since there's usually a slope right before them so i can pick up speed there (lol) but def need something with a lil more of a kick.. any thoughts on this ls? guy said 600 for everything

figured this may help ya out lol. any way im the one selling the LS motor he's talking about. its a b181 out of a 93 integra. has 85000 miles and runs great. im selling him everything for the swap minus the ecu and starter. I was going to put this in my car but decided to go a different route. i figured 600 for everything is a very good price as i just need it gone lol.

just throw a b20b/z in.
The swap really isnt hard at all, and almost everything to put it in can be pulled straight from a 99-00 si.

just dont get another 1.6. B18A,B18B,B18C or the B20 are good for your type of driving. also look for a GSR trans maybe.

B20s are actually cheaper then b18s. Its just that they are OBD2 so people don't want to deal with them. The 3 shops I went to all quoted me 500 for a long block. I just bought one for 200 on craigslist and rebuilt it.

^^OBD2 is the newer emissions and On-Board Diagnostics setup (newer cars). Stricter settings dont allow you to tune the engine as well as OBD-1 which has less restrictions as far as fuel mapping and stuff i guess.
Longblock = head and block
shortblock = just the block

Hop on hmotors.com and check out b20 long blocks. When my friend bought his it was 750 shipped.

And pretty much all you would need is a tranny and intake manifold, mounts.
In some cases youll want to use different injectors, dizzy and a few other things.
This is because OBD1 and 2 have different plugs..

You have a eg correct?

yes, i've got an eg.. i found a 96 sedan on craiglist. he's running a b20 crvtec? and is willing to let the car go for 3k.. he said he'll swap the motors (his in mine and mine in his) for 2500.. would it be more beneficial to just look on hmotors?

DONT BUY A B20 FROM H MOTORS!! My brother did the same thing, and ended up paying 900+ after shipping. Just look for a local deal, or go to a race shop near you.

Also, the thing about ODB2 is that you have to convert the motor to your car. So you have to change the Distributor, Starter, Altenator(?), Injectors and on a b20 you have to change the Intake manifold.

NO! I wouldn't pay more then 500 for a b20, its just a bigger LS.

And yes do it yourself, I doubt that thing ran a 9.

Was it a b20z?
Also you only have to change the intake manifold on the b20b. The b20z's manifold fits.

550 or what ever the b20b costs is cheep, you cannot bitch about shipping, that isnt under hmotors control.

so if i went through hmotors and got the b20b it'd be a good swap? i'd rather spend the money on the b20 vtec if i could find put together i think.. i mean, i dont see the point in buying a b20 longblock just to go out and find a head for it, then have a b20 head laying around.. if that makes any sense, am i wrong?

No such thing as a JDM B20z. it was a 98+, and it dosen't fit, it sits about 4 inches higher.

Also its 750 + shipping, im just saying its not worth buying it from them, when you can get the same thing for cheaper.
