d15b2 head bolt hole... block fubar?
So here is my dilemma. There was significant oil leak coming from the head gasket so I prepared to change it. I was ready to un bolt the head so I started in the correct order, bolts 10 through 6 were coming loose fine, bolt 5 was incredibly tight coming out. After getting the bolt out I found that the last half inch of thread was completely gone, which leads me to believe whoever had the head off last either cross threaded the bolt somehow or had re used old head bolts.. I tried running the new bolt in to the hole but it wasn't threading, it just kept spinning.. so I tapped the hole and still the same result.
So my question is, aside from the obvious need for a new block, is there anything that can be done to avoid having to swap out the block? Could a machine shop possibly fill the hole and re drill/tap it? Is there a larger thread bolt that I could use? This is my DD right now so all help is greatly appreciated..

Yeah I hear ya, I'm going to use the heli coil kit this weekend, I'd hate to waste a perfectly good bottom end. Thanks for all of the responses.

you're not "supposed" to use a helicoil for head bolt threads but honestly I think you would be fine using them. We used to use them in TONS of spots with a good amount of stress for repairs on our blackhawks (heliciopters) Just make sure you get a GOOD kit there are plenty of cheap *** kits out there.

Ive seen the kits from autozone, they're not TOO bad, they could be worse. Just make sure the kit will come with the right thread size/pitch that you need for your headbolt, also the drill bit and helicoil insert tool
