just bought car, will not start
well like it says. i just bought this car and its not starting. i dunno exactly whats wrong with it but i'll tell you what i know. i bought a new battery, starter was checked out and passed. When key is turned to start the car will not turn over. no clicking or anything at the starter. Starter gets 12v when key is in on position. I checked out the main relay and the soldering points look good and it clicks when you turn the car to on. the back seat is pulled out so i have access to the fuel pump and i can hear it prime when the key is turned on. I was thinking about the switch that gets depressed when the clutch is engaged to start, so i checked that and it looks intact. i was thinking about crossing the wires to allow constant voltage to the switch so you don't have to press the clutch to turn car on. I'm not sure what wires they are tho as my damn ventilation tubes block the path to the switch. Can anyone help with what might be the problem or any ideas of what i should check to try to get it running? thanks guys
Well first i would make sure that you checked what i checked. having hondas before i;ve had relays go out on me and the such. So i would make sure your starter is getting power. make sure it works, make sure your battery works, make sure the main relay is clicking when you turn the key to the on position, make sure your fuel pump primes when key is turned to on. Now i had the problem that it would not even turn. So i jumped a power wire to the starter to crank it and it cranked and started right up. Since there was no problem with the start up i knew that it had to be somewhere in between the key turning and power to the starter. so i traced the wires and found that the starter power wire was spliced from a bad alarm install. there were still relays and bare wires. i cleaned up the wiring, did some soldering and it starts up everytime the key is turned.
if you have any other issues lemme know. there's certain things to look for if you're car isn't starting. the beauty about hondas is that they are pretty straight forward with repairs, you just have to know where to look and what to look for.
