Suggestions on Clutch Kit & Flywheel
Hey guys! I tried doing a little search but could not find any recent recommendations on clutch kits..
I will not be planning on boosting or doing an extensive n/a build for a couple more years. This is pretty much my daily and I do hit traffic on a frequent basis but it's not that bad. I won't be planning on attending any AutoX or track events anytime soon. May see the Drag strip once a year?
Here are my mods..
97 ITR #446
I/H/E
No internal engine mods & transmission is stock.
Currently, I have a unknown clutch kit & stock itr flywheel..
I've looked into OEM Clutch Kit and it's about $350.00 with my employee discount at Honda. While a Competition Clutch Stage 2 & Exedy Stage 1 runs me about $275.00
If there are anything else that are recommended, please feel free to suggest.
Thanks!

I haven't gotten a price on an Exedy replacement kit but $350.00 is about where it stands, priced out at acuraautomotiveparts.org.
I'll see how much that costs, thanks. - How's the feel compared to OEM, identical?

Oh and personally I'd go OEM. They last a nice long time unless you are doing something crazy (which you aren't). All the sprung aftermarket clutches I've installed have made noise fast.. with no actual benefit over stock. (ie both work fine).
Check w/ Clutch city. If you check g1teg.org and in the FS section they have a set price for the 1st gen Teg for like $95 shipped for Exedy OEM clutch.

Tell them you are from g1teg. and see if they give you a good deal on the oem clutch kit. The kit is all the same from 94 and up for tegs, if I am not mistaken.

Better yet. Check with http://stores.ebay.com/gripforce-clutches
I bought a few set from them. They are pretty good

Are there any benefits in getting a lightweight flywheel in my situation? I have a buddy who may be getting rid of his 8.8 lbs flywheel soon for a good price or should I go with a 12 lbs?
All the prices on my first post is for a complete kit with Clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, & pilot bearing.

Yeah, OEM clutch/PP is perfectly fine. No reason for anything else unless you have a specific need, and it seems you don't.
As for a flywheel, I wouldn't want an 8.8lb for street use.

The exedy oem replacement is a nice way to go. Good value vs. OEM honda.
No point in replacing your flywheel, sort of a waste of money.

PLEASE dont go oem clutch, I am currently using this clutch and its pretty geh compared to an exedy sport pressure plate/disc combo.
I know a shop that can do just under 800 cash installed... maybe a fair bit less.. I cant remember.
They will be doing my clutch soon, cause I dont want to do it lol.
EXEDY SPORT FEELS SOO MUCH BETTER!!!
i think if your looking to keep the ITR with vaule and also if your not looking to do any hard racing, go with OEM. but with the sounds of it you already have some bolt on parts and im pretty sure you would like to upgrade your clutch and flywheel also. i think any clutch is great for the money you willing to spend on. like ebay stage 3 clutchs that go for $160-185 shipped are very good for the price but if your looking for name brand clutchs like act, clutch master, cc, ect. its all up to you and with the power your making i think a stage 2 would be the best. GL
Personally I'd rather have the OEM than my ACT. My ACT = noise and stiffer pedal with no other benefit. My ACT started making noise without a few thousand miles.. nothing major, but still, I've had OEM clutches with 100K before they started to make noise from the springs going.
OEM is fine. Just put one in a 97 with 151K that we did a mech. restoration on, it's perfectly fine.
I use to be in the "never go OEM clutch" group, but now, unless I'm running something with a lot of power over stock, I wouldn't bother.

OEM clutch, ACT prolite flywheel or the lightest flywheel you can get your hands on.
double mega win with no cons at all. I've been using stock clutch's in my last 3 motors and have never had a problem. especially if your just going to ***** foot it around.

Are you running stock oem kit w/ itr flywheel? You'll be changing to Exedy Stg 1 i presume or higher?
How's the feel of that setup on the quarter mile & track, i believe you recently went to mission lately? So it's a factory feel with quicker revs?

Thanks!
exedy oem replacement feels identical to stock, and the $108 was for the disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearning, alignment tool, and grease.

Feels good really good, revs alot quicker both in shifting and in revmatching. I'm a firm believer in stock clutch, lighter pedal pressure so its easy daily driving, less wear and tear on thrust beaings and throw out bearings, quiet operation and super reliable. My stock clutch grab's hard enough for what i use it for. I can't chirp third like when i had my spoon, act hd or centerforce but i've had broken disc in all three.
Spend the money on a good lightweight flywheel, i havn't used aftermarket stock clutchs so i can't really comment but i stand by my oem all the way.

Im currently running a Fidanza flywheel and Exedy Stage 1 clutch.
I will be buying another Exedy Stage 1 when this one goes out! Im very satisfied with my set up. Its slightly more firm than stock but not enough to wear your foot out in traffic. I definitely recommend Exedy! You'll honestly forget its not OEM after a little bit of driving! Its very mild but effective!

I was in this same boat 2 months ago. I have always been a firm believer in using OEM whenever possible and like you I was shocked to see how expensive an OEM replacement was even after my Honda employee discount. I decided to go with a Excedy stage 1 with an Excedy 9.5lb flywheel. So far, I like it. Clutch pedal feels very close to stock (which was important to me)and I really like the lightened flywheel as well. Just based on costs even if this one craps out prematurely I can buy 2 of these and still be cheaper than 1 OEM.
Thank you!
There's still so much to consider, I'll be looking into OEM / lightweight flywheel
Exedy Stg1 + ITR Flywheel..
I have had it for almost 3 months now. Have already tracked and AutoX'd with it. Around town is fine. The clutch pedal feel is so close to stock that I didn't notice a diff there. The biggest change I noticed was from the flywheel. Revs pick up a little faster now but also drop faster too. I was really reluctant to not go with OEM but up to this point I don't have any complaints.
