hey all,

have a 2002 civic si (manual transmission). i get this annoying metal on metal screeching sound at around 2k rpm..not above not below. it goes away at around 2200 rpm.

it seems like its coming from somewhere behind the engine and it happens no matter which gear i am in. i cannot replicate the noise at standstill if i gun the engine to 2k rpm. so could it be something to do with the transmission?

Do you have an aftermarket header or sway bar? Any modifications at all?

 

Sounds like a aftermarket header with a poor install, do you know if it's modified? Also, I believe you transmission sits on the driver side of your engine, not behind it. So key your ear into that area next time you hear it.
