Default Exhaust Questions (yes I've searched)

Well I'm planning how to spend my next big overtime paycheck. So far i've got:

1. Mugen/Samco intake
2. Hondata S300

As far as an exhaust is concerned, for a header it seems like the RMF narrow is the way to go. My problem is that any good header has a 63.5mm outlet (2.5") and any exhausts that I like are 60.5mm (2.38"). I'd like to go 2.5" because I have plans for headwork, cams and higher c/r down the road.

How bad for power is it going to be to have a 2.5" header with 2.5" cat/test pipe matched up with a 2.38" cat back?

Does anyone know of any other quality 2.5" catbacks besides Hytech and T1R ? I've bought some T1R stuff in the past and was not impressed. Hytech looks good, I just don't want to have to wait a couple of months.

Lastly, any thoughts on going with an RMF replica and Skunk2 70mm exhaust for a budget set-up? Looks like you could easily get both for under a grand.

Thanks for the input.

Why not go with Professional Product TBs since you want a budget, its half the price of Skunk 2 TBs

You can always order a Kteller piping kit and pick out which resonator/muffler you would like. Then have a local shop weld it up if you're not able to. I went this route using a 22" Magnaflow resonator and a Spoon N1 with a 2.5" flange welded on. So far so good.

Just get the 2.5" piping kit. I have heard Kteller gets the piping from http://www.vrsexhaust.com/TUBING_KIT.../acura_tk.html so just order directly from there. I got my piping along with magnaflow muffler/resonator/cat from SMSP, but it is essentially just a bunch of parts you can order anywhere.

I just had to chime in...

From what I remember, you just picked up a mostly stock 01 ITR.

Why not just order the mugen intake/samco hose, a good header (JDM 4-1, toda, spoon), and a good catback (spoon axle back, spoon b pipe, mugen twin loop, etc) and then figure things out from there.

I think you would be very surprised how those mods alone will wake your car up. Once you start talking about headwork and cams things get sketchy, I have been down that road so many times and IMO it's no worth it, especially when its so hard to find a good tuner in Canada.

PS: SKunk2 is garbage. There is much better products out there in every category.

T1R is also cheap garbage.

Toda, mugen, spoon, OEM, .... mmmmmmm

Also to mention, the RMF and Hytech are great headers, but only if you are focused on peak HP, headers like the spoon are made to compliment the stock ITR motor, and they do so very well.

Two rules of thumb for an ITR user:

1) Buy good quality stuff or leave that part stock. Chances are the cheap aftermarket part will be drastically inferior to the OEM part. And the few extra HP you (might) gain isn't worth it.

2) Don't go overboard with mods. Keep it simple and enjoy the car how it is. Then, later on down the line, you can decide what you want then.

Point being, don't mod just to mod. The ITR is a great car in bone-stock form.

It's been a long time so I don't remember exactly what I paid. Check out the Kteller site, I'm sure prices are listed. I already had the Spoon N1 and a 2.5" cat, and paid maybe $100 to have it all welded up. It's loud, especially with the cams I have in the car. At least that seemed to make it louder. I had to pop the silencer in on the way to the Expo or i'd get a headache.

I've got no problem spending the $$$ for quality parts. If the best part costs twice as much, all that means to me is that I have to save my $ twice as long.

It's hard not to want to mod. I think this is the first car that I've bought and didn't already have a garage full of parts waiting for it.

Maybe it's just best to stick with an off the shelf mugen/toda/spoon/j's header and exhaust for now and then look at something bigger if/when I do a full build down the road.

I dont know how much you care about noise... but the twin loop is very quiet and a quality piece, it will also slightly outflow the other combo I'm about to mention... but I dont care for the way it looks, plus I feel that spoon is a better product than mugen in general.

I am currently running what i think is the BEST exhaust combo I have ever used, JDM 4-1 header, JDM cat, oem b pipe, and spoon axle back, it sounds like PURE SEX, sure there is other header and exhaust combos which flow better, but it really works well on the car, the *** dyno tells me I'm very happy.

Just beware, that running any kind of rmf, k teller, catless, etc super crazy flowing exhaust is going to be loud as faaack.

The only thing I am thinking of doing right now is spoon header, I will never remove stock ITR cams again, I will never do headwork or pistons again... I have really learned to appreciate just how great the stock (in my case 98+spec jdm b18cr) can be with he right I/H/E.

Now... a good clutch and maybe a new FD... those are some great mods IMO.

Mugen intake = good. no issues there except for the price.
The Samco intake tube looks cool so why not.
As for a catback, stick it out and get the Hytech. You can find used ones for sale from time to time. I've have many catbacks(Spoon N1, T1R 63mm, Apexi WS2, etc) and I've settled on the Hytech. I wish I started with it.
Header = Toda. Best off the shelf header you can buy.
Skip the TB until you start doing motor work.

With this combo you can build your motor up and these parts will only compliment it.

Just my $0.02

If you don't mind saving, just save up and do it once...I've gone through three different headers and two exhausts. Now looking at another header/exhaust combo, haha.

And I still wont sell you my HyTech header/exhaust combination ;-).

To answer your question - don't get over-excited and start buying item to mod your car, I did that when I first started playing around with this car...and blew a lot of money on cams and other misc. items that proved to be inferior to a well thought out I/H/E/Hondata combination. Information that I only found out after many hours and $$ on a dyno.

There are several options now a days for you to choose. I wont go into a ton of info that is already posted on here and in this thread alone. We offer customized products for different applications and if you want to email me directly sales@kteller.com, I would be more then happy to answer any of your questions.

Hey new to imports, well cars period but I've been doing alot of internet research on mods for a bb6. Is it possible to have a rmf header and mugen exhaust???? I think the rmf has like a 2.5 and the mugen is around 2.25 if I'm not mistaken. How would you get that to work?!?!?!?

just read only the OP post and not any replies.

as far as a good true 2.5 exhaust, Thermal R&D makes good exhaust systems.

I know many on this forum have used Thermal before and I have never heard any complaints. I am a user of Thermal exhaust system as well. Im running the 3" system.
