Default My .02 about what has happend to drag racing

After another poor turnout this weekend at the NSCRA event at MIR, I feel like the real racers aren't going to have a place to race anymore next year. I honestly HOPE NSCRA returns but who could blame them if they didn't?

START RANT:

Before this season kicked off with any racing there were all these people bitching about rules changes and how they think a class should be this way or another way blah blah blah. Jason Miller/Nscra came together and tried accommodate everyone ( but your never going to please everyone) In hopes of getting the car count and crowd attendance up. Well the first race came around at MIR where are all these people ? IFO at capitol (Thanks Cliff) where are all these people? S.I.C.C in North Carolina( yes I know it rained out) Where are all these people? Yesterday MIR where are all these people? IMO the people who really want to race will do what it takes to make the car fit the rules and race. I know I am out gunned and have been years on end. I built my car for myself and race the car for myself and have fun doing it. I have taken whippings repeatedly from some of the best Ballard, Reynolds , Everley , Medina , and the list goes on. But that doesn't stop me from racing. Recently things are coming together and I have been giving out a few whippings of my own in the tank.

This doesn't happen overnight. This is something all you sh*t talking keyboard warrior's need to learn it! You make me sick! You on cry H-T about this rule that rule and I have seen rules get changed and you still don't show up. 90% of the time it's the same racers in the same class. You jagoff's sit at home waiting for results on H-T so you can post "good job Miller"( no disrespect to Miller sorry about your turbo. ouch!) , instead of making it to event's with your so called "cars". You don't even show up at all to show some kind of support for the sport. I guarantee if Jason Miller would post up rules for WCF today you Keyboard warrior's will post away about rules you don't like for an event that you won't race in. I know it Jason Miller knows it all the races know it. How about you do me a favor from now on and shut your mouth's!! This way the people who actually want to, and do race, can put in there valued opinions and get things moving in the right direction while we still have somewhere to race. If I offended you GOOD! How about you come to the next race get in the next lane and shut me up. Or if you want to go another way and attempt to shut me up you can do that also. It would help the car or crowd count so I'm all for it either way. But that would involve you getting off your your lazy *** putting some pants on over your scoobydoo underoo's leaving your Mikes hard lemonade in the fridge and coming to a race.
END OF RANT.

I am sure it will get deleted but I hope it will stay up atleast a day or so. I know there is no real point to my thread. I just wanted to share my feelings on how I see things are going in sport compact racing and there not good. If you guys want to pick on my spelling and grammar instead of addressing my concern then your just proving my point Keyboard warrior!

I agree 100% man i was there for the first event running and i was there yesterday just spectating but either way i was there! The amount of people in the stands was sad to say the least! Yeah it was hot but you gotta show support or this **** is going to die out quick! I remember a few years ago the stands were full and the 16 car ladders were full what happened? It was hot then too so dont blame it on that...even the car show was terrible yesterday like 20 cars max...

I know everyone gets sick of hearing it, but the economy does suck. As a small business owner I can tell you that these last 2 years have been the worst EVER!!!!! When racing is typically a hobby to most, that gets put on the back burner when you are struggling financially. Sad but true.

So I'm sure many people are in that boat as well. Some aren't. But I'm sure that a lot are.

My 2 cents.

Damn that sucks guys.
I figured it was always packed out up there.
We only haVe a few races to hit up here in South GA.
So usually its pretty packed at ours.

Too me it looks as SICC is scared there turnout is gonna be bad so they pulled the plug on the other two races.
Which sucks, it was gonna be fun hitting up race after race in sept oct and nov.

And to add to the post above.
It does suck.
Im in the car industry, our monthly totals are HORRIBLE, havent been this bad in a long time.

So my money gets spent on bills and **** instead of racing.
Sucks but its the truth

I'm sure the inclement weather predictions were a contributing factor to the low racer/spectator head count. IMHO, S/C racing just doesn't have the same vigor as before. People are broke and are unable to resume their race programs. Although there are new players coming into the arena, there are more dropping out than fresh blood coming in.

I know some may disagree with this statement, but honestly, even back in the packed venues of NDRA, how many of those people were "race" fans? Most were there to enjoy the car show, the T/A contest, burn-out contest, jello wrestling, night party, drinking, etc.

I was practically offended that 6 second Pro RWD cars were lining up and 80% of the crowd were at the bikini contest hooting and shouting with sh1tty music blaring in the background, drowning out the sound of the machines.

When I go to MIR for their Wednesday Street car event, the stands are packed and there isn't a bikini, burn-out, jello wrestling contest in sight. Just drag racing fans enjoying drag racing.

I agree with you fully. I understand economy sucks and it has kept me out of racing this year but I have still shown up to several events to at least support. Point is if your not going to race dont bitch about the rules and make it seem like you will be out there. Everyone needs to get out there when they can and support the sport how ever they can.

md23vtec In this thread you bitch about people not showing up, and you say you show up for the love of the sport only. But in the SICC thread you worried about what pay outs are? So which is it? Do you do it for love or money?

Sorry but im sure racing is a hobby for alot of people, I know it is for me. Im not going too kill myself too make a event just so other racers can be happy about it. If you think Import Racing is the only ones taking a hit right now.You are totally wrong! Other races have seen low counts. Sorry not everyone is baller enough too race like you. But the facts no matter how much you bitch, ITS STILL A HOBBY!!!

All the people that bitched and moaned for the rule changes in SS didn't show up AFTER they got the rules they wanted. So now there are needless rules that cost racers time and money for what?

I agree 100 percent with MD23vtec, every rule change thread is swapped with people that want rule changes yet the events are ghost. As the sport declines it gets more and more aggravating.

Racing is my hobby! I still make it happen because I enjoy it. I have a mortgage, an 11 month old daughter and old lady at home. I don't have a shop, don't have a heavily sponsored car. It all comes from my pocket with he help of my friends I get my car together and we do what we can to make our cars the best we can and race! That's all any of us can do. I pay my bills first and take care of my family first then it's racing. I plan and budget accordingly. I do what I can to make races and race. I have the heaviest Honda with the smallest turbo as Jason Miller said. I make races and don't B*TCH much. But in the end I race. I have 64 passes this year in my true street car how many do you have? How many races have you went to let alone competed in this year? My car had problems on the dyno Friday night yes I was pissed blah blah blah. I still came Sunday with my other car and ran Street stock #5 qualifier in a 6 car field and still went to the finals anything can happen in racing but not when you just sit and talk trash on H-t Instead of getting to the track and trying. THAT'S my point. If you think me asking the payout makes me a bad person then you're a retard. I am not a favorite to win or anything or expect to win I was simply asking a question. The series was cut down from 4 races to 1. So I wanted to see exactly what was going on what's wrong with that? I drove over 16 hours that Saturday to get rained out. So I feel I can ask any damn question I want! P.S. I still made the IFO race the next day at capitol to compete in the FIS class. You don't get rich off of racing if you think so again you're a retard.

Don't worry, we'll be back (99% sure). Our attendance went up from the previous year and we are confident it will continue to grow annually. The 3rd annual Maryland IFO has already been penciled in for the same weekend of July, 2011.

you know what i think? just dont talk about it. at least anything negative. and be optimistic that we even have a series. its will be alright. let time do its changes and it will eventually go back to the way it was. just dont keep changing things. let it run its course and have fun. geez you guys spend enough money on it just go out and drive the dam thing.

just dont say things on the INTERNET about negative stuff like this. it only deepens the problem. lets lock and away with this thread.

I agree with OP 100%... Kinda a different topic but im gonna throw it out there anyway.. You know what really grinds my gears, people goin to the strip and running there bone stock 91 da integra, running a 5.3 60foot time, and blowing oil all the way down the track. Now i gotta sit in the staging lands for another half hour, sweating, while they clean up the remains of your 17 second pass...In the meantime you coem on H-t and wonder wtf happened?? and how can i shave precious seconds off my time?? This is how...sell that junk
end rant

I mean no disrespect or ill will towards the sport Mrparks. But deleting/locking the thread won't do any justice either IMO. Instead of running away from the problem maybe people can realize what's going on and adjust to the problem were all guilty of doing something wrong. I think if we all do our part then the sport can grow. But sweeping it under the rug doesn't fix anything you just have a bunch of dirt under the rug and it's still there getting bigger instead of doing what needs to be done to clean the dirt up. What ever is going on now isn't working right or wrong? So why not alteast get people to voice there views good or badd? Instead of ignoring the problem IMO it has to get worse before it gets better but it's not going to happen if it's not talked about by ALL sides.

thats just that. search around on here it doesnt make it any better it just gets progressively worse.

at the end of the day its sponsors that pick up the tab. when they see racers not happy, then fans arent. then sponsors have no reason to be affiliated. this is where im getting at. its not all that hard. but when you air dirty laundry out it tends to taint everything else. so ya. do what you will, but just remember it does no good, but relieve a lil stress for yourself.

[I want to thank Clayton for letting the thread stay open for now.

Mr.parks maybe I do just need a relieve a little stress for myself. At the same time this thread has been open for just over 3 hours I have 8 Pm's most are from racers agreeing with me but choose not to post for there own reasons. 2 are keyboard warriors that I am not concerned about but the thread is making a discussion. I see your point which yes it does make scene but at the same time something has to be said also.
