Default True cam duration #s

Well i manage to get an used cam analyzer with this DIY spintron machine i just got. I want to start developing my own cams for personal use, so this will help me do it. I took a set of S2S2 cams and put them on the cam analyzer and this is what i got.

pro 2 257in 263ex at .040" not the 270 276 advertised at .040 (1mm) lift. so i ran to my boys shop and grab all the cams he had in stock and here are the results.

IN EX
pro 3 269 269 not 277 284

BCIII 250 245 they advertice 296 290 at unknow lift. probably .015"
BCIV 266 262 "advertice" 306 302
BCV 267 244 "advertice" 312 306
BCVI 253 243 "advertice" 319 307

all these are at .040" lift, i tho S2 were legit people since they include all their specs with and true duration at .040" with all their cams, instead of some crazy unknown lift like buddy club does. i guess they are both on the same game.

wow.. thats pretty neat you did this..

are those pro2 numbers PRO2S?? or regular s2s2 tuner series..

anymore cams you got, i'd like to see stock oem itrs and gsr and b16's.

Can't expect those numbers to be almost exact on every single cam they make.. i'd expect some type of headway alittle bit with that, they are pretty close to the advertised lift..

how do you like the machine? any pics and price?

i got the cam analyzer friday night, and played with it all day saturday real easy and simple, you are paying basically for software because the machine it self is just $50 worth of stuff i could buy online at digikey, its a rotary an a linear encoder.

The diy spintron should be done next week, I got a member of an other forum building one for me, its a modified version of the one he owns. i took the cam analyzer with me the same day i went to pay him and brought the 20hp ac motor.

i could post some gsr and b16 cams this week, i don't know of anybody around with ITR cams.

the bootleg spintron is super simple, its a square tubing base to hold the head, and rollers to put tension on the timing belt driven by a 20hp a/c motor (his holds the an entire dummy block just like an engine dyno). then a TPS sensor attached to the rocker arm that you read through an oscilloscope (you see 0-5v mountains). the tps has a low pass filter to filter any little vibration and just lets you see the cam movement, and if the valves where to float you should see the patter change and the voltage fluctuate on the scope.
after seeing how the thing works i just wanned to go home and build one instead of paying him the 700 bucks, i'm an electronic engineer so i have a scope and own a welder, the thing is worth like 100 bucks tops, just need the oscilloscope. the dude is real smart and is going through some rough times, felt bad so i gave him the loot. i also need a high speed camera, thats whats gonna really kill my pockets.

I also have a cam analyzer at my disposal, and i can tell you that your numbers are right on the money. the S2 cams are not only pretty far off in duration, their centerlines are off also. its almost a guessing game when you degree them, since you cant use opening/closing numbers or centerlines. Ive even called them before, and asked if i had the right cams, and my reply was "yea, we know they're off, but just put them in close to where the card says, and it'll run fine" ... if people only knew what they were buying...

btw, im really intrigued by the poor mans spintron. seems like a simple answer to a complex problem. let us know how it works out.... and post some pics!

Is that @.040" spec supposed to be measure at the cam lobe or at the valve?

the cam analyzer has a liner encoder that sits on top of the cam lobe, its like having a valve stem sitting on top of the cam lobe on a bench. as you rotate the cam it sets the base circle as 0 lift and then measures from there. you also have to input the rocker ration and lash. the program takes all that into account and gives you the legit numbers at the valve stem.
