Icon2 Tranny grinds and car wont move

I just swapped a SOHC ZC into my 90 CRX DX and did an auto to manual conversion. Motor runs flawlessly but I bolted it to a DX 5 speed tranny I got off a parts car for free. The tranny was sitting in the weeds for almost 3 years now but ran before it was parked.

I drove my car about a half mile before the tranny started making a loud grinding noise and the car no longer moves in any gear

Car goes into all gears, clutch and flywheel are brand new and feel perfect. When i let out the clutch the tranny grinds but wont move. if i push the clutch back in, the grinds stop. There is no noise when idling in neutral or when the clutch is pressed in

Any idea what this could be? From what ive read i think the bearings are shot in the tranny

Also, there is a huge amount of play in the shifter even when in a gear. shifter swings from door to door as far as the console will allow it to move when in all gears. I think this is caused by a worn white bushing around the ball of the shifter (oem linkage and shifter off the same parts car)

Please help, If I need a new tranny, anyone near western PA have a good one for sale?

Bearing are most definately a problem here, but did you be sure to check or change the fluid before moving this trans? I'm guessing no and in that case you could have overheated/ seized/ melted the gears

you probably over tighten it, try giving it more slack

Over tighten what? Over thightening the shift linkage would cause it to be tight not have extreme excess play as it does

was there axles in this parts car? crud may have gotten in there or lack of oil causes it too. and you say the trans WAS good operating in the other car? cause that noise is the same as what sounded like when my trans blew up. wouldnt move only grind. the diff pin broke from lack of oil (tried to make it home after i discoverd a leak..doh )

Thanks guys for your help. I actually found that the pass side axle nut had fallen off and the noise was the axle splines destroying the splines in the hub.

Tomorrow i will be replacing the hub, wheel bearing and axle.

Anyone have a trick to stake the axle nuts? obviously my technique doesnt work
