Default Manual Steering rack question(tried searching)

my 94 EX comes with factory power steering, well it hasnt been hooked up in five years, and is starting to make a creeking noise, i have a brand new manual rack. i have heard that the subframes are different between an power and non power rack, can anyone tell me if this is a simple "swap" out or do i need to change the subframe. thanks in advance.

You should be able to bolt the rack in on the driver's side, and with a spacer or thicker bushing on the passenger side, it'll fit no problem. Also, I'm not 100% sure on this, but you might need a different universal joint where the steering rack attaches to the column. I think the PS pinion has a larger diameter spline than the manual one.

I had the universal joint issue Jaker described when I switched to a manual rack.

Yep,Manual rack needs a manual universal joint, the spline size on the PS rack is larger.
I ran PS for years with my K swap but recently swapped it for the manual rack to shave weight.I too had to swap the uni-joint and add some rubber to the passenger mount bracket.
You dont need to switch the column at all.

Erik95LS took a different approach, it's cheap, you can keep your rack and the car drives awesome. I plan on doing it eventually.

Yes. It will bolt in fine. Search my username. I made a how-to thread on how to do the swap. Get a couple questions a month still about it. (Did the swap about 4 years ago)

This doesn't help with his existing PS rack seemingly going bad.

Ever since my ps belt broke my accord years ago, and I had to ride around a while without one, I found I loved the feeling of manual steering. The feedback, the extra control. With a lighter rack, It's definitely worth it.
