Default car wont hold oil, it all leaks out.

so i was driving today and my cel went on and an oil pressure light. pulled into gas station there was a huge puddle of oil under my car dumped a quart in and it all imediately leaked out again, well with in 5 minute it was gone. i have an 01 ex 4cyl f23a4.

Got home checked the oil pan and gasket they seem fine, it appears the oil is leak is locted under the lower timing cover somewhere. any suggestions on what this could be? car runs fine just doesnt hold any oil.

ya i had a van that blew the filter off once, that was the first place i checked. im thinking its something behind the lower timing cover. What could be blown back there? I hope this isnt to exspensive. there is definately no hole in the oil pan and the gasket seems fine. Right now im sorda stuck somewhere with no money and without my haynes manual and out of work as a pizza driver till this is resloved. I mean could this be like a seal around the crankshaft and pully or something?

Pull the timing cover and do an inspection. I would venture to say it could be the balance shaft seal.

yup there is a service bulletin about the balance shaft seal, the seals walk themselves out. Honda sells a seal retainer kit which is just a brace to keep the seal in the race. Thats the first thing i'd check if the oil is coming out behind the timing cover. Its also a good tikme to do the timing belt maintenence as well.
