Rear Trailing Arm Bushing on 1988 Civic DX
I am aware these bushings fail frequently and that Schley makes a nifty tool #65100 to press out the old bushings and press in new ones without removing the rear trailing arm from the car. Amazon sells that tool for $120. However, I am reluctant to buy a tool for a single repair job that I may not use again. Since this rear suspension design has been changed and the tool is not needed for repairing newer Hondas do any of the Honda techs have experience removing the rear arm and simply pressing out the old bushing with a large socket? Expressed another way is the simplicity of using the Schley tool worth the $120 to avoid the hassle of removing/reinstalling the trailing arm?
The Honda TSB states the arm must be removed to install the new bushing.
