Default Will an AUTO transmission from 90-93 Accord fit 94-97?

hello,

i am having trouble sourcing a nice used automatic transmission for a 1997 Accord LX.

i think i read somewhere that a 90-93 auto tranny will bolt onto a 94-97 engine, but that the gear ratio is slightly different?

can anyone confirm this? or perhaps show me where i can see what accord trannys will fit my year accord?

94-97 auto trannies seem to be scarce in my area and it would open a lot more options if i can use a 90-93 tranny.

THANKS!!

If you go to the ► 1990-2002 Accord FAQ and scroll down to Drivetrain and you will see F/H Series Gear Ratios.
Acoording to CB7tuner.com...

4th gear 195/60 R15
70mph = 2944 rpm
80mph = 3364 rpm
Scrolling down further it appears the '92-'96 Prelude ATs are also an option.

You can improve first gear multiplication from '94-97Accord 11.3 to '92-96 Prelude 11.9 which may improve acceleration but might lose some top end with the F22x. The '90-'93 Accord has a 11.5 multiplication. The hangup is cruising rpm will be higher with both transmissions over the '94-'97 Coupe/Sedan.

Yes it'll fit with no problem!

One thing you'll need to do is that you'll need to relocate one of the tranny mount stud for the tranny on your 90-93 Accord Transmission so you can bolt it up in your 94-97 Accord chasis.

awesome thanks for the help guys!!!!!

couple more quick questions, if i were to go with a 90-93 accord or 92-96 prelude tranny, i will still be able to put 94-97 accord axles in them with no problems right? as well as anything else that would attach to the tranny?

isn't the starter on the tranny? i can still use my 94-97 accord starter on a 90-93 accord or 92-96 prelude tranny, right?

thanks again

If you have a Accord Intermediate shaft, you will need the Accord Driverside Axle. Passenger side axle won't matter. If you have a Prelude Intermediate shaft, you will need a Prelude driverside axle and passenger side axle won't matter.

All Accord/Prelude 5spd Honda starters will fit any F & H series transmission. I'm using my F22B1 starter on my JDM F20B LSD transmission, and there's no problem whatsoever.

my buddy works at a honda dealership so he'll be swapping the tranny for me, but i want to make sure he knows about this particular tid bit regarding the one tranny mount stud.

how exactly would i go about relocating the stud??? do i need to fabricate my own mount somehow?? could there be a tutorial or something out there with pics showing how this might be done?

Anytime.

You just use the two nuts to back out one of the middle stud on the tranny housing. Then you'll need to re-tap this extra hole and screw in the stud. I don't know what other ways to explain it as it is a bit confusing.

Try searching it on Google for more info if you can. Good Luck!

ok so my honda mechanic buddy said relocating the stud should be no problem as long as the tranny bolts up to the engine.

so NOW my question is, since my car is OBD2 and this tranny is from an OBD1 car, will this throw any engine codes or anything? i won't need any converted harnesses or something will i? i just want to doubly make sure this 91 tranny will be plug and play.

THANKS!

ok i found this thread where someone says putting obd1 auto tranny into obd2 car will be no problem since the transmission controller is built into my 97 accord ECU:

https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-accord-1990-2002-2/obd1-auto-tranny-into-obd2-car-979890/

this puts my mind at ease a little bit, but if anyone can just confirm this i can sleep easy tonight.

Had a '97 LX AT in the '95 EX. Same transmission. The change with OBDII in the '96/97 cars is with the engine itself.

no its not, its within the wiring and vacum routing lol. the engine is the exact same ****ing thing. I pulled a 96 (OBD2) F22B2 engine from a 90 (obd0) shell to use in my 95 (obd1) shell. same ****.

just to clarify, yes a 90-93 auto tranny will bolt up to a 94-97 chassis. gear ratios are different but not like it matters much in an auto lmao.

So we are in agreement. Never said the engines were different. OBDII changes were with the engine. Not with the transmission.

Gear ratios are gear ratios, doesn't matter if the coupling between the engine and transmission is hydraulic or mechanical. The change in cruising rpm from a BB1-4 AT and CDs AT are as different between like MT cars.

HGZ I replaced the '97LX trans when it ate itself with a '96(?) Odyssey transmission. Not sure what the gearing inside it is though.

nus_dogg only the MT cars have the two piece driver side axle with intermediate shaft correct?
