Just got done reading after searching for a while.. my fuel pump isnt priming,
after searching i found that the reason for the pump to not prime could be a bad fuel pump, or a bad main relay, or possibly a map sensor..
the car cranks fine i have the hose that goes to the fuel rail disconnected to see if fuel will come out when priming and im getting no fuel, and the pump isnt priming...
its a 88 hatch with a b16a1..
Any ideas?

underneath the driverside of the dash all the way to the left you'll see the main relay (little black box with a 10mm bold holding it on with a plug into the bottom of it. While you turn your key on keep a finger on that little box. If you dont feel a click when you turn the key, then the relay is bad.
I had the same problem in my hatchback. Power at the pump, cranking, but no fuel in the fuel lines. You should hear it click as your CEL goes off when you turn your key to the second position as well.

ok i put in a new fuel pump, still didnt work.. then checked the wires in the back for power leading to pump and realized i wasnt getting power. So i went and got a new main relay and the fuel pump is still not coming on. i checked the power at the plug that connects to the main relay with the main relay connected, and the yellow and black single wire does not get power. I checked the wires in the back seat again after the new main relay and still no power to the fuel pump. so i unplugged the fuel pump plug in the back seat and checked the main relay plug and now it had power. then plugged the pump back in at the back seat and checked main relay again and no power this time.. so it seems by plugging the pump in is somehow causing the power to be cut off??? help for ****s sake im getting discouraged

I wired it straight to the battery last night just to get the fuel pump to kick on and it did so i could attempt to start it.
ALso i checked for spark last night on one of the spark plugs/wire and wasnt getting any spark either. no fuses are blown, and i looked inside the ecu it doesnt look burnt out any where.. also the fuel pump wire gets power right at the ecu, but not at the main relay for some reason...??????????????????
by the way the car has been sitting for a while.

so i got no spark, and the main relay is not turning the fuel pump as it should.. no blinking lights on ecu, no blown fuses, brand new fuel pump and main relay..
whats that sound like? distributor? igniter or ignition switch? anyone?!

Quick question Mike banX, did you buy an oem fuel pump or one from like pepboys or kragen? Asking because the one I bought I had to tap into wires because new fuel pump had it's own connectors.
if your check engine light does not come one there is a problem with the ECU. can you give me the specs on your car? what ecu are you running? obd0 or obd1?

i read somehwere that if the light doesnt blink on the ecu when the key is turned its faulty.. mine doesnt blink at all, cel doesnt come on, main relay only clicks once, not getting spark and not getting power to the fuel pump.. also the turn signals werent working the first time i tried starting it..

CHECK YOUR IGNITION SWITCH. Its a big prob with the ef. no check engine lights are going to come on no power to your fuel pump no power to ecu and no spark. Come on if the switch that turns on everything in your car is only working half *** because all the solder got to hot from the switch and melted away guess what only half the **** in your car will work.

505turbo: i am getting power to the ecu.. just no cel, no spark, and no power to fuel pump.
I appreciate the help, and the more that chime in the BETTER.
