Hey i am trying to figure out which coils i should get. I dont wanna pay more then $700 but top hats and adjusted damping would be nice.

so far the best two are:

function form type one: i can pick them up for 600 but its not damping adjustable

tein basic: 700, no top hats or damping

some koni/ground control would be nice but they are up in the 900 right now, i hear good things about the function form, and you cant really go wrong with tein

if anybody else knows a good set for the price let me know


(oh and its a 00 civic, daily driven and i just wanna get rid of the wheel gap)

 

Why not F2 type 2's?

those are going for cheap...

I have the type 1's and even tho theyre not adjustable, once you get them balanced, the ride is night and day.

 

type 2 are near 900, and i probably dont need the damping, it would just be nice to have, there is a shop in my area selling the type one's for 555+tax so there is a good chance i will pick them up

 

Why not Tokico Illuminas and H&R race springs, adjustable damping and zero wheel gap and no tuck. I had this on a 2000 Civic with a 205/50/15 tire.

 

yeah, i was looking into the kyb agx's, anybody know if the megan racing coils suck as much as i think they do?

i dont do anything Megen..paying a little extra for quality is worth it.

when you try to save a buck, it will cost you 2

 

You could always go with Koni yellows and a good lowering spring.

 

if i can find some cheap ground control coils on craigslist i was thinking of just getting the kyb's

 

ill be picking up D2's tomarow from a frend. i heard they ride stiff but ill let you know

 

d2's are damping adjustable so you should be able to make them softer

 

anybody know good coilover sleeve's for like 200?

 

I've had or have friends that have had all those cheap coils before. Blox, PIC, Omni, Function and Fail, Ksports, they're all chinese trash. Tein's and the japanese coils are better, yes, but I have talked to and researched alot of Road racing threads and forums, and everyone will say Koni's will be the best with custom rate Eibach springs. I have Koni sport yellows, which can be re-valved to race spec to accept spring rates higher than average. I have comptech sport springs on my koni's now, but just ordered a set of ground controls with 6 inch long, 2.5 inch diameter Eibach ERS springs. 600lb/in and 500lb/in. I will start with these rates and go higher as needed once I get my shock re-valved. With having the same size springs front and back I can swap them around however I want and leave the height perch at the same spot so ride height never needs to be adjusted once set. I have top hats already and will use them if my shock travel is not long enough.

 

yeah but this is for best ride/price its not for racing its for daily, i might auto x twice a year at most

 

i have dropzone coil overs from dropzone with the gas shocks ive had no problems with them for over 5 yrs now. cheap their only like 300 for coil overs and shocks. mien still adjust after 5 yrs if u pressure wash the threads out unlike some that lock up after a yr that ive had in the past.

 

i would still stick with a quality shock and longer spring for daily driving. i've seen cheaper coils blow struts all the time and most of them don't have the dampening force needed for their spring rate. would you rather spend a little more up-front for a quality setup or worry about possibly having to replace struts every few months if their covered under warranty or not? i know function stopped making replacement shocks for certain models over a year ago. and with the ground control/koni set-up you can easily upgrade in the future if you want to.

 

well the kyb agx's are adjustable, and since i am not going crazy low they should work great and they come with a lifetime warranty, i could just get some brand name springs off of craigslist for under 100 and maybe some ground control coils down the line

I know I don't own a 00' Si, but I can vouch for the function form type 1's. Got them on my DA, which is a Daily Driver. Very good suspension. It's stiff and is pretty comfortable. I have about 1.25 inches of thread (including the locking nut) exposed in front and 3 inches of thread exposed in the back. Plenty of room slam the crap outta my car. In comfort I would rate it a 8.5-9 out of 10 compared to the stock suspension. Here's a pic of how it sat for the first couple days before the springs settled in a lil bit. I went from half a finger gap, to no gap at all.

And I'm sitting on 185/65 R14 tires. Just so you can kinda get an idea.

used d2 coilovers. new they sell for 800 and ive seen them as low as 400 used

i know of roughly 5 people who have them 1 who seriously tracks his car and no complaints from any of them.

 

all the coilovers that look the same as i listed above including d2 and many others are basically all made by the same manufacturer, then re-badged will probably leak over time depending on the roads you drive on and how much you beat on them. i'm sure some people have gotten the "good batch" and have and may never see a problem, but you hardly ever hear about koni or other similar brands failing. most of them have a lifetime warranty also that they actually stand behind. my function and fail struts were like $100 each when they started leaking. by the time i replaced the rears, the fronts started leaking a few weeks later and decided instead of replacing faulty shocks i would just buy quality shocks and save some money in the long run. if cheap is what you want, cheap is what you're gonna get.

 

well then kyb and tokico would be considered decent right, i didnt hear anything bad about them and they both have life time warranties

 

I was planing in getting yonaka coilovers. they go for around 700 new. does anyone have experience with them or know anyone that does?. my boy calls them yo-nockoffs lol
