Should I Paint My Civic?
My 99 Civic DX has been a great car. It just turned 170,000 miles. I have a had a head gasket job, tires, rims, intake, lights, aftermarket stereo, new belts, a/c compressor, all done to it in the last 3 years. I was thinking of selling it, but it would only be worth about 1000 because it needs body work. Really bad. One side has a dent where a panel needs to be removed and the other side has a couple of shopping cart dings so they want to repair that panel also.Because of honda's defective clear coat, the paint has faded and looks embarrassing. The guy quoted me 2,500. wow! a lot of money. I was thinking about a new car but its hard to justify spending 12,000 on a car thats not a lot different than what i have now. How much can i expect to pay for a decent paint job, with some body work? Is it worth spending the money on the paint job and keeping this car another 4 years? after all, i could drive away from the body shop and blow the engine. The engine has a slow oil leak (like all old cars) and occasionally burns oil.
thx

Anyway, with paint jobs, you typically get what you pay for.
You want a cheap paint job? You can get one, but don't expect any great results (unless you know someone and get a deal or something of course).
I guess it all really depends on what you are getting for $2,500. If it's a totally new paint job with door jams and prep work done properly, that's not too shabby actually. What is included?
i didnt ask what was included in the entire job, i assume the door jams will be done. he said if he's gonna do it, he would do it right. he's done work for my family before that turned out well.

i would personally get the car painted and if the engine blows u can easily get another one for $500, its not gonna be a b18c or k20 but it'll work and will keep your car moving for another couple of years or more
Personally i think spending the extra 2,500 on a new paint job is completely worth it. Honda civics are renown for making it to or past 250k, i say go for it. But paint it something not so forest green
^ Yes because they can use this paint job and not use as much paint but might as well just start new. But seriously Midori green.
Oh and my chick friend has a forest green civic so you're right ;]

I've seen some Maaco paint jobs that looked good in pictures on here. I haven't really seen many up close and personal though. It could be a good compromise, save some money, but it won't be as nice. I spent $1200 on painting my EJ6 and they did an excellent job.
Do you like your car? I'd say if you do, get the paint job. If not, drive it t=until you can afford something you like more.

Jeebus. Mine has 227K on it, and it looks almost brand new. I didn't realize the green had those kinds of problems.
I agree that if you like the car, do it. Mine's been reliable as hell, and even at 227K, I couldn't imagine getting rid of it anytime soon. I'd be too stupid to, it runs too good.

^ Like every other ricer in his town probably? I see like 10 flat black Hondas in one day alone.
He should try to be different, but not stupid different. If your paint job is freshhhhhhhhhhh with ten h's, it's probably ricer.
