I have a 2000 accord EX, 2dr, 2.3l, automatic, (ULEV engine).. I was told by my transmission shop to replace the ECU as it may have caused the problem I was having.

Anyway, I was looking around trying to find a replacement; the ECU I have is part number 37820-PAA-L74 but there is also a second set of numbers below this. Does the 2nd set of numbers have anything to do with the ECU interchangeability or is it a serial/control number or something?

Ive found others with the part number (37820-PAA-L74) on ebay from LX models, and such but would anyone be able to tell me what the deal is with this immobilizer thing for the security system?

Does it matter whether or not the ECU came from a LX, EX, etc? does it matter even though they have the same part number?

I was reading some ECUs are not equipped with the immobilizer setup and cannot be used with them.... And that certain trim levels, EX, LX, etc have the immobilizer and some dont

Also, IF I do get an ECU thats identical to the one I have how do the keys get programed to the new ECU?

So Basically..... I need a new ECU... what details matter and what dont to make it work?

Any clarification of this would be greatly appreciated

Yes it does matter if ur car is a EX then get an EX ECU and also make sure its obd2b as u have a 00... once u have changed over the ecu take it to the dealer to have ur key programmed to that ecu becuz usually ur car wont start as the ECU doesnt recognize the key...

When I look up the part numbers on majestichonda.com for the ex and LX it shows the same part number for both. But then Ive heard a few places that it matters and a few others that says it doesn't, thats why Im confused.

One of the sellers on ebay mentioned to me that all of the 98-2000 accords have the immobilizer system (I wasnt sure if it was just the EX model).

How exactly is the immobilizer code programed for the key? do they use a Snap on scanner, or some proprietary honda version of one like GM's Tech 2 scanner?

OK, so it seems that the immobilizer system is standard on all 6th generation accords and all that matter is the part number.

From what info I could find, all I must do is get the new computer, get the code and have the ECU reprogrammed to my key....

SO the questions is, does anyone know if this can be done with the newer Snap-on scanners or does Honda have their own diagnostic tool ????????

Plenty of garages around here have the snap-on scanners which would make it easier for me, but the closest Honda dealer is around 40 miles. Im just trying to figure out what I have to do when I get the new ECU

 

You are correct. The ECU part number is what you need to match. If the part number (37820-PAA-L74) matches the year & model will not be a concern of yours.

Another member here on H-T mentioned that some locksmiths can also program the IMMO in the Honda ECU. Give the phone book a try and see if there are any locksmiths in your area that can come to you and do it.

 

I'm basically in the same boat. I have a 2000 Accord 2D, A/T ULEV with a Failed ECU. PAA-L74
I just got the ECU and need to take it to the dealer to have the IMMO activated to my key/VIN.
