98 hatch brake light out

my hatch's rear left brake tail light is out, the weird thing is that when i turn on the lights they do work so i know that all the bulbs are good, what should i check??

no, it was just the angle at whic i took the pic, i did'nt push down on the brakes, which is what i cant figure out the lights do work they all turn on (as you can see) but when you brake they dont come on at all, and when the lights are on they dont brighten up when u brake as they should

Have you tried replacing the bulb? Your tests show that only the left brake light does not work and that all taillights do. Have you checked whether there is battery voltage at the brake light terminal inside the left bulb receptacle when the brake pedal is held down?
The filament doesn't need to be broken and the light bulb doesn't need to look dark in order for the bulb to be bad. It's similar to a fuse in that the item doesn't have to look bad in order to be bad, even if they usually look broken.
One filament can go bad in a two filament bulb (which means only one of the ways it lights will stop working).

i checked the socket and it was a bit dirty so i cleaned it and just to be safe i replaced the bulb, it's working now so thanx for th help
