Icon3 Desperately need some help with idle issues

right to the point ,

my car: 1998 honda civic EX with b18c1 block and ITR internals and head , GSR tranny ,

my car has been acting really weird lately and heres my main issue ,

when you turn on the A/C the idles drop wayyyyyyy down , like 200-300 the motor shakes and almost makes a knocking noise , turn the A/C off and it goes back up to 800=900 like normal. also you can let the car run with the a/c on at 200-300 RPM and it wont die , it will SLOWLY creep back to 800 and then go back down as soon as you give any gas.

I have 4600k hids as well and it seems that when I turn my hids or my fogs on , idle changes a little , is that normal>?

things I have checked are

*cleaned throttle-body*
*cleaned IACV (even though it was pretty much spotless of carbon)*
*battery connections are all good , grounds are good no corosion anywhere*

what could it be ? its 109 today ! hottest day we have had this year and we have a heat advisory for 10 more days....

someone help me figure this out before I melt

not sure about your HIDs.... strange that putting load on your battery would affect idle...

As far as your ac, are your pullies/belts in good working condition??

as far as I know , they spin freely without any squealing or anything.... and AC blows nice and cold , I use it all the time on the highway. just not stop and go traffic ....

hmm. what throttle body is on there?

disconnect the existing IACV and see what happens under those various loads. do you have another IACV around to try?

when did this behavior start?

is there a plunger type dealio inside the IACV that kicks idle up when ac comes on? seems like that is the issue.... but still wouldnt explain lights affecting idle....

I dont have another one laying around to try unless d series IACV's are the same and I seem to remember that the bolt holes are different.

this behavior started when it started getting hot I guess I dont really know I never used the A/c before march , I bought the car in FEB when it was still cold out.

I am going to test my battery here in a bit , if I used a charge box hooked up and tried to run the ac with that if the idle doesnt change its probably my battery or my alternator correct? or is that an inaccurate way to test those?

Any CEL codes?

Does the condenser fan run when the A/C is turned on? Is the condenser clogged with bugs and debris?

When the A/C is off, does the idle speed increase when you turn on the high beams and set the cabin blower to max?

no CEL light , have not checked to see if any codes are being thrown ,

condensor fan works , not sure if its clogged , I do have a 99-00 front end with no plate so it would make sense if bugs got in there.

I will try the high beam thing when I get home , what will that tell me?

It will tell you whether the IACV is responding to the ECU.

okay gotcha , everyone says my description sounds like condensor fan issues ( not cold until Im up to speed not idling , and the low idle with ac on)

does the condensor fan sound right?

also , the guy I bought the swap from had the coolant lines that go to IACV looped , theres no coolant going to IACV would that cause a prob?

Yes, it sounds like a condenser fan or condenser problem. But your fan runs, so check whether the condenser is clogged up.

No, this should not cause your problem.

The condenser and condenser fan are on the driver side whereas the radiator fan is on the passenger side. The condenser fan should only run when the A/C is on. The condenser and radiator fans have separate controls.

FITV. Check it. Fast Idle Thermo Valve, the cause of 95% of idle problems after the IACV has been checked. Also, check coolant level. Don't worry about the HID problem yet. Check the FITV, clean it up, screw it back in and adjust accordingly.

is there a diagram of the FITV?

I used the battery chrager last night it doesnt seem to be my battery.

I turned on the blower to max and turned on the brights , my idle actually seemed to drop like 50-100rpms , the needle moved just a slight smidge.

Sounds like the IACV is not working, so you may have more than one problem.

Does the CEL work?
