Icon6 96 Honda Accord problems

On my 1996 Honda Accord, I replaced the intake manifold gaskets and cleaned the EGR valve and EGR ports. My problem now is it starts ok when engine is cold but it doesnt want to do any slow running at all. The engine stalls when i slow down, and runs pretty shitty. I have checked my vacuum hoses, and Im sure i replaced all removed parts and connections. And the check engine light is not coming on yet so i can accurately tell what the problem is. I have to say that think i might have gotten some engine degreaser inside the engine block while scraping off the old gasket.

Then it started running like nothing was ever wrong for about 3 weeks then now it starts ok cold or hot but the CEL light like goes on and off with a loud clicky noise and the D4 light goes off when CEL comes on and off. And engine kind of poweres down when this happens but doesn't shut off. I dont know what else to do to this stinking car. The CEL wont stay on so i can get a read it just flashes and goes away.

I have replaced the distributor cap, rotor and wires, checked for vacuum leaks.

BTW: Mileage is currently 234K on original engine

try hooking up a vacuum gauge up to check vacuum and see if it's in spec. I don't have the specs but i'm sure you can find the specs on this site. if it's out of spec then you would have a leak. a leak would cause your symptoms

Check for stored codes. I think that year will store the CEL codes, meaning the CEL light is off but the ECU has codes...then it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong.

The connectors for the IACV and IAT are the same, are you sure you didn't switch them around? They both plug into the back of the intake manifold and are easy to switch around, ask me how I know...

Oh...one easy way to check is to unplug the IAT while the engine is running. If you don't notice a difference, then most likely your wires are crossed. You can also try unplugging the IACV but that test isn't always definitive.

Codes could be stored unless the ECM is losing power/ground. Wiggle your key in the ignition switch, does the symptom occur?

Check your battery and perform a voltage drop on the cables, try wiggling the cables while you perform the voltage drop, too. The symptom sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

I have checked codes and no codes are stored yet. Actually the car just ended up dying on me yesterday on my way to work, I was a ble to shoot a video of what the CEL was doing though b4 it finally crapped out. I tried restarting it again this morning and it wouldn't start, it seems to turn over CEL flashes and clicks and D4 disappears but car wont start. So I had to call AAA to tow it and drop it off in my yard. :-)

@ Hybird...I actually havent checked the IAT and IACV, I will check it when I get home this morning. Also, which one is the IAT you talking about?
@Photobag, I sometimes have to wiggle my key in the ignition even b4 it turns to I, but while the car is or was running, even if i wiggle the keys it didnt do that.
@Gary...I have an OBD2 Reader but its not picking up any codes. its on a yellow warning though, but so far code hasn't come on. How do i get the code manually?

Update: Actually the car just ended up dying on me yesterday on my way to work, I was able to shoot a video of what the CEL was doing though b4 it finally crapped out. I tried restarting it again this morning and it wouldn't start, it seems to turn over, CEL flashes and I hear a clicking sound and D4 disappears and comes back on but car wont start. So I had to call AAA to tow it and drop it off in my yard. :-(
Now I have to drive my beat up Chevy to work, so any help would be greatly appreciated guys.
Thanks.

BTW: I will post that video on you tube and add a link in my next post.
