Default New Car to Build, Which one, POLL

Well, its that time again to build a race car. Need your input on the best platform. First some of the rules.

Weight with driver = (cc*0.95lbs)+175 lbs
Any mods wanted to the chassis
Wheels up to 17"
Engine mods, any as long as you don´t go over 2000cc NA,
Tranny no limit
suspension no limit
tires no limit
glass can be replaced with lexan

I will post the options with their weight limit which should be considered, thats why I am including the B16, track with tight turns.

Can you get an RSX or new Si down to 2075lbs? I think that would be difficult and/or very expensive.

PS: My boss has an '06 550i. Friggin' SWEET car

Edit: I guess the same idea as above applies to the 1695lb EK Civic too.

EK with B16 - 1695 lbs! That weight helps in acceleration, turning and stopping. Nearly 400 lbs lighter is huge!

I'd vote for an EG coupe w/K20 myself...

Seems like a nice way to spend $40K.

I think the K20 Integra or K20 Civic HB have a better shot because of the weight. I know I can get the other ones really low but with a lot of work. But they are still an option. Looking for a car that can get good weight balance.

With the RSX and newer Civics you have the additional fun of dealing with a Macpherson strut front end. Another thing to keep in mind.

I´m assuming you are being sarcastic right? At first everybody was talking about how bad the RSX was, then a lot of people mentioned that is just getting the right stuff for it. Also lots of teams are now running RSXs with great results. I am really confussed about them. They do look very cool at the track.

Did you read the list of mods allowed that you posted above?

If you'd like to build a no-holds-bar car which uses every available part to increase the performance of the car, it'll be $40K easy with the list of stuff allowed in your post above.

Guess it just depends on what you are looking to build. A fun track car? Sure, it won't cost $40k. A car that doesn't leave any excuses on the table for inferior prep, $40k is just the starting point.

Not sure the purpose of your build, but it sounded like you were building it for a class of some sort to be competitive!

Good luck and have fun with the build!

now I get it, opps sorry,
Yea I know this sport is not cheap, I have built around 5 race cars now. I just want to start my new project with the best platform possible or the one that gives me the least headaches, the one easier to tune and drive

No worries.

My vote still stands and I have experience with all the chassis's you are thinking about using. You'll come close to making weight with it and have the best chance at sorting the car quickly.
Good luck.

I know at least in the US that people are using RSXs rather than other cars because of age restrictions. Integras and EK/EG Civics are simply too old by the rules. It seems like for other teams, the new Si is a better choice than the RSX (see Continental series).

Ive talked to drivers that ran the rtr rsx, and the ga rsx neither of them liked the car both of them where much happier when they went to tsx. And where not excited to go to the civic sI, but it was a good bit better then the rsx.

A buddy of mine drove both the 2 door and 4 door in ga, he won the championship in a 4 door but said that he was faster in the 2 door.

Why race in a unlimited class if you arent going to the fullest extent or even close to the fullest extent of the rules.

Jeremy's 40k would be burnt threw quickly. Xtrac, tilton clutch, adapter plate, penske/motion/jrz/ohlins, NBE built k20. Is just a start and would put you at 50k easily

I'd go dc with a k20, more engine bay room then the eg

I always thought the 2 door SI was about the same as the rsx, a pain to get right. How different are they?

There arent many RSX's out there because of the cost to buy initially...
The from what i have read, and known fact... hard to tune suspension wise.
many factors out there.. you dont find many unless you have the unlimited budget to throw at it to make it all work. You need to have after market support for the chassis you want to run.
Some people are more inetp, and have the resources to make such a chassis work.
Most of us have budgets and we tend to go with whats proven and we know works because the majority of the racers use the product.

Thats exactly my point. I dont want to build a car and spend money if I could have built a car just as fast for less. I am trying to find out which platfrom will be the easier to tune and drive.

There starting to be a lot more B20 engines popping up too.
Very very cheap to buy too.

you are talking about having all the work done by a shop right?

for $40k, a gts3 m3 can be built... most people run in hc because it is cheaper than running in gts right?
