Hi guys, my speedometer will go to 20mph no matter how fast I am going and not move, but then maybe once a week will work just fine. I am told to lube up the cable on the end that attaches to the transmission. Would that be the most likely solution? Thanks

 

Your speedo is unlikely to have a cable.

Any CEL codes? I think it more likely to be a speedo problem, though you should also test the VSS and its plug and wires.

 

Your Speedo system is electric so no cable. But it seems like your problem is mechanically, as in the cluster itself. You may need to invest in another one.

 

if you have a cel (the vss is not working whatsoever.)

if the vss checks out good (check resistance while spinning with a drill) it is likely the PCB on the back of the speedometer. just swap in another speedo, or board and you will be good to go.

 

I had a bad battery once after swap and the speedo, and headlights stopped working. Sounds weird but its true. Check your battery is just one option.
