94 accord transmission issues.

94 accord transmission issues.
I have a 94 honda accord recently the manual transmission was acting up. It wasnt shifting right (only if it was cold). The other day the car died. Now the car will go into 4th and 5th but will not go into 1st thru 3rd. I've heard it could be friction plate, transmission forks. Problem is no one where im from will tear the tranny apart. Every machanice wants me to replace the whole transmission which is going to cost a large amount. Could it be whole transmission or something else?

Could be a synchro, could be a fork....with a good mechanic driving it he can probably make a decently educated guess. With tranny's going for $200-400, I'd just swap the transmission and call it even.
