Worried about CHP inspection...advice plz
hey there. I got a 03 RSX from the insurance auction and it needed a rear bumper for it so I bought a rear bumper off a older guy on craigslist. It was his friends that put a body kit on so he gave the bumper to him to sell it.(thats what he said). Now he cant reach that dude with the rsx to get the vin number off the rsx so the CHP(california highway patrol) officer can run the vin and know that the bumper is not stolen. (i dont think the rear bumper comes with a vin on it)
Now I am worried that if I go do the inspection without the vin, they could even take the bumper and say that i cant proove that its stolen. If i dont tell them that I bought the bumper, I am sure they will still see some how that the bumper was change and they'll still trip.
Can i get a vin number off a rsx that has same color bumper(witch is darker bluish or like purple) and say that I got it from this rsx? How will they know that the bumper was not really off that rsx? As long as the rsx is same color as my bumper and the same year. I am just thinking something like that will work.
What do you guys think?

I don't think they will even ask you what you did to get it back to being street ready. They will just do a visual inspection, match all the vin numbers on the engine and frame and inspect and make sure it is street worthy. Because body parts do not have vin specific information on them why would they care, much less have any proof if something was stolen.

I guess i'll pain the car and let them do the rest.
BTW thanks for the reply/help!!!
