I've got one I'm planning on installing, but I'm certain that non-sunroof USDM EGs don't have mounting holes for a map light. I'm assuming I have to make a bracket, which is no big deal. I'm just trying to figure out how to attach the bracket to the roof. I really don't want to take my whole headliner out just to spot weld it in place, but I guess I will if I have to.

Has anyone done this and do you have pics?

I don't know anyone who's done it, but I'm pretty certain I've seen DIYs that show non-moonroof 6Gs have the bracket for the map light that only comes on cars with monroofs.

Maybe it's only by certain years too since at least with 6Gs the map light only came in the EX/Si from '98+.

 

While I'm not 100% sure there isn't a bracket for my '92 hatch, I'm pretty close to it. I found a sedan w/o a sunroof and there was absolutely nothing up there. My suspicion is that 92-95 DX, CX, and VX models didn't have the bracket while the SI did.

NOFX might be on to something - have a look under the headliner of non-moonroof 6th Gens (especially the ones built in Japan, from 98-00!) You might be able to pillage the bracket from there. I've scanned for images of 6th Gens with their headliners removed - haven't found any pics from non-sunroof models, though.

 

I'll give that a shot...of course, I think there's like ONE 6th gen in our junk yard. Otherwise, I'll just fab something. It's going to be trickier to install it than it is to make it.

Probably worth removing your headliner at least partially so you can see if you have a bracket already too.

I mean, if it turns out you need to weld one in you're going to need to drop the headliner anyway.

 

Yeah, there's no bracket on USDM/CDM 5th Gen non-sunroof vehicles.
