About a year ago, I had some fool replace my clutch, cuz I just had NO time to do the job. He got some sort of aftermarket clutch kit and release bearing. Immediately after the job I had to take it back to him cuz the bearing was squeeking unless I would depress the clutch freeplay on the pedal. I know he didn't put high temp grease on the bearing, and thought this may have been the issue, but he just took it back and got a new one. The sound stopped thereafter.
But ever since the job the first time (and after the newest bearing) the clutch slips HORRIBLY, specifically off of first gear. You have to make a ridiculous pedal effort at take of in order to avoid the slippage. In other words, I can't take off quick at the line like I used to.
I've tried to diagnose this by reading various books but can't find what the hell is the reason for the clutch slipping so badly. Obviously when one gets old it slips, but this one has been slipping since the day it was put on (brand new--supposedly).
The most recent thing now is that whenever I downshift, specifically to 3rd, 2nd, and 1st gear as the rpms rise, you can hear like a grinding sound. Sort of sounds like hair clippers. Is it because the clutch is F***ed up now? OR DO I HAVE WORSE PROBLEMS? The sound keeps getting worse.

 

Do you happen to know which brand and which kit he used?

 

No I don't. I didn't even ask... But he prolly just picked it up and some cheapa$$ parts store
