HELP! Cruise control won't stop accelerating!

HELP! Cruise control won't stop accelerating!
When I turn the cruise control on and set it at a speed, it wont stop accelerating. I then disengage the cruise control and the car revs up to redline!

Hi,
Its a 2000. what do you mean by check the throttle cable adjustment? and how do i do that?
There are no check engine codes.
