Default What's better for modding? 1st or 2nd Gen CRV

I've come from a lot of sporty cars and I want to get into hondas an also learn how to work on an engine better (like pull it apart and know how to change the pistons)

I liked the idea of a CRV though for it's space, but it's potential since the 1st gen has a b20 and the 2nd gen a k24a1 which are both highly desired engines. Also, adding the fact of AWD, these cars should be pretty fun.

I want to know if it's worth it to pay the extra 2-3k for a 2nd gen CRV for the K series and refinement/saftey. I want something that handles well I plan on lowering either car. Which one do you guys think is easier to work on or is better in general?

There is hardly any aftermarket support for the g1 and practically none for the g2.

I would say the g1 would be easier and cheaper to learn on because of the b20. The gen2 suspension is plain stupid and very costly if you want to lower more than a couple of inches.
