LS/VTEC N/A Motor, what can cause this?
Currently doing a wire tuck/ brake line tuck and decided to work on engine while it was out. B18a bottom / b18c head. I know i was running rich and i did need a tune but what can you tell me about this? found oil in pistons? valve on head was burned real bad? what can cause this? i was thinking about just replacing the valve stems/guide and have the head cleaned. Bottom block looks fine just wiped all of the oil off...
Looks like its been running hella rich. Maybe the HG didn't seal too good? I've heard leaking oil from HG stories about them B-Series Frankensteins all the time, so I'll let them pro chime in about this one.
Did you ever smack the valves before? I would have the head completely disassembled and checked over to make sure you don't have any bent valves, that your guide to valve stem clearance is in spec and you replace your valve seals and probably get a much needed valve job done.
never, ran fine, just had some idle problems when its cold. these were all brain crower parts btw. ill most likely get a new valves/valve job and have the head cleaned. Dont wanna spend another 300 for parts i can use again..springs and retainers should be fine, right?
springs and retainers are usually fine, you wanna check the pressures of them after 10-20k miles, depending on how hard you drive and what you rev to
stock valvetrain usually lasts a long time with stock cams and such.

This prolly doesn't contribute to any of those oil problems but the gasket surface on your head looks like its scratched up in a few spots, while its apart you should have a machine shop resurface it just so you are getting the best head gasket seal with that higher compression. My stock gsr looked like that when I took it apart also, and it needed valve guides, and with any kind of miles most b vtec heads have bad guides. Performance will be way better with fresh guides, because not only will you stop burning oil, the valves will not be wobbling around causing a bad seal against the seat.
