Basically im looking to do a 50-100 dollar paint job and im determined to make it come out top notch
I want to spray it not roll it and i was wondering what kind of HVLP gun i should buy
Also has anyone had any success using single stage urethane paint, it seems to dry faster, require much less wet sanding and work during the painting process and it seems to come out rather good looking instead of dull until it gets buffed. I still plan on doing some wet sanding and buffing after spraying the car but i dont want to have to wait 6 hours in between coats and have to apply 7 or 8 coats to get complete coverage - urethane says you can spray 3-4 coats within 90 minutes then start the finishing touches the next day
Im leaning towards the single stage urethane paint instead of the top side rustoleum mixed with mineral spirits since people never really have an exact ratio for mixing it for good results and the urethane paint is only a little more expensive but seems to have a much better finish plus theres much less time involved with the job and much less wet sanding
also any painting tips would help since ive never really sprayed a car only done body work to cars
let me know what you guys think and thanks in advance for your time

single stage urethane paint is specifically designed for cars, 50 dollar rustoleum jobs are not. Primary difference is, single stage will look good for 5 years, rustoleum will look good for 3 months.

Speaking of which no one recommended a decent HVLP gun, im looking for one thats $50 or less, any input would be great
How much single stage urethane do you think ill need to get complete coverage on the car - 2 quarts?
Also has anyone actually used the single stage urethane and what kind of results did you get? Also did you use clear afterwards or just leave it as is after you sprayed?
If anyone has pics of their single stage paint job dont hesitate to post them up, id love to see how they look
i really doubt you're going to find an HVLP gun that's going to be able to do everything you want it to for that price. a FinishLine FLG3 made by Devillebiss is probably the closest thing to what you're looking for- but it's 3x as much as what you're looking to spend. but it is a really solid all-around gun that you can really beat up over and over again.

www.eastwood.com has fair priced single stage urethane paint
in my expierience, if someone knows how to lay down paint then they can get pretty decent results from a cheap hvlp gun.
my first paint job was a single stage black using ppg acryl enamel. it laid out like crap because i was new to spraying paint.. but i was able to wet sand then compound and polish the paint out to a mirror shine.

I dont see how you can say that considering ive looked at plenty of the results in the 50 dollar paint job thread and some of those results look oem, it seems to be more about the time put into the paint job not the money - im just looking for some tips on what paint to use, what kind of gun to buy, and im looking to see some results of single stage urethane before i try it - you offered me none of these... thanks
