Default Driver side mount decided to explode on me - 96 civic - Questions..

Ok so the car is a 96 hatch with a LS swap / b16 trans.

Just got the swap done and running tonight. Literally the 2nd time i got on it trying to break it in a bit since the motor was setting for a good while, i shifted to 3rd gear at about 6000 rpm's give or take, and i hear the worst sound ive ever heard in my life. I limp the car slowly back to my house not knowing what it was, sounded as if i hit a huge limb in the road and didnt see it so i wasnt sure.

Oil all over the bottom of my hood, all throughout the bay, pieces of metal laying here and there... you know the good stuff.. Not only that, but now i have a dent going outwards on my hood from where aparently the motor decided to eat **** against it. Driver side mount decided to blow up, and im thinking, why? I inspected it thoroughly before i used it with the swap, there was no tears or leaking with it, it is a stock mount that was daily driven with my d16y7.

The only reasonable explanation would be my fault, which is i had just finished the swap and had not installed the tranny torque mount or the a/c torque mount, is this why it happened? Ive heard countless times of people not using the tranny torque mount, but having them both not installed could cause this from a bone stock LS?

I just want to find out if im a colossal jackass for beating on the motor without the torque mounts installed yet, if thats the case you can just say im a idiot I wont be upset, I know it lol Im thinking thats obviously why, so i wanna hear if theres a similar experience so i know not to go by ear of people not using them in the future, because if thats the case here, its obviously a necessity...

And once again yes I know im a jackass.

hard to say, but i do know that silly hydraulic mount can be a ticking time bomb.

when i swapped my GSR engine into my old CX, i made sure i ran an ingalls stiffy to help that thing out, and since i had A/C i had the lower bracket torque mount in business as well.

at least now you can skip the crap and upgrade that mount

Yeah good advice, i should have tooken that route before this happened lol Didnt know they were that prone to busting though, i had a 99 hatch with a gsr swap that was tracked a few good times as well with all stock mounts and never a issue... Just kidding, it was busted when i pulled the motor out but i never knew it, not enough to cause a issue.

After photos of course.

Blue ground wire ftw, not sure where it came from but it was layin around so i used it for now lol

Notice the midori green custom contact lettering on the valve cover

haha, yeah, it looks like you left the hydraulic mount alone to fight quite a losing battle ; )

It's a common fail part, replace it with an upgrade say from Innovative
