Alright my girlfriend just got a 1994 honda accord lx coupe, automatic trans. The car will randomly shut off while driving (rpms drop to 0, speedometer and cluster lights all still work). It is random, sometimes u can drive the car for an hour without it shutting off, other times it will shut off every 60 seconds.

From everything i've read, it appeared to be the ignition switch. So i bought one from ebay and installed it today and it still does the same damn thing. When it dies, if u turn the key back and try and start it again right away, most of the time it wont start. It takes multiple times for it to finally start.

Any suggestions???

 

Could be a faulty ignition control module, ignition coil or a bad connection at the battery/fuse box. Could be many things.

 

Which one should I start with? The icm is in the dizzy right? Replace the whole dizzy or just the icm?

 

Replace the whole dizzy.

 

Alright. My buddy has a spare main relay so I'm gonna swap that just to try, if it still does it then ill get a dizzy.

My buddy said he's bought just the icm from autozone before and replaced it in his dizzy..still get a whole new dizzy though?

 

Don't call it a dizzy.

 

And why is that? Easier to type then distributor.

 

"dizzy" is a term often used by people who condemn an entire distributor rather than understanding how to diagnose a particular component within.

May be kinda stupid, but check the connection that goes to the fuel pump. When I installed my sound system, I accidentaly seperated it a little bit and it does the same thing you described randomly, although it may not be the problem, its an easy check.

The check engine light it throws when u try to restart the car is a code 15 which is ignition something inside the distributor??

 

did check the spark plugs and the spark wires? my car did the same thing but then i realized that there was a crack in my spark wires that seem to be like a burn...
