I have a 2001 honda civic ex with 7000k on the odometer. I was wondering if it is safe to use nitrous oxide, such as the ZEX kit (dry nitrous) or whatever?
Thank you,
Eddie

SURE....A good 150 Shot would go nice with that engine
BTW it should be fine to run say a 50-65 shot on your motor without any problems

I suggest running a 50 shot wet kit instead of a dry shot. The fuel is always going to be there and you don't have to worry about an injector clogging and melting a piston. Opt for an NX or NOS 50 shot single fogger wet system. You'll also want to swap your plugs for some that are 2 heat ranges colder(preferably copper plugs, never use platinum). You should also retard your ignition timing 1-2 degrees just as another safety precaution. If you follow these directions, you should have a very safe setup. Good luck on your decision.
zex will not work on the new civics. nor will a NOS dry kit. you must use a wet kit or the venom kit. i have been spraying a NX 75 shot on my 01 civic for over a year already. no problems at all. stock timing too.

don't the new d16y series motor have a platic Intake manifold I have seen pics of one that basically exploded..hmm let me do a search for it someone did post on HT about
One of my friends dads is a dentist, so thats where all my friends get there Nitrous, but ohterwise a welding shop or a speed shop could probably help you. Some jsut wont have the facilities, so you might have to look around.
Be sure to find a place to refill it before you buy the kit, you dont want to find a place 3 hours away that you have to go to once a week.
Good Luck!!

You should be safe as long as you go with a 75 or 100 shot
I swear to GOD I'm so tempted to just delete any and all threads having to do with nitrous or NOS y0! because some people have no clue, yet they think they can still "help" by posting.
Points deducted.
D16's with stock internals should only shoot less than 75-shot. It will survive 75-shot on the street which are usually like 2-block sprints in my area but if you try to get the full 1/4-mile at the track, you really are asking for it (even with minor safety mods like ZEX plugs, retarded ignition timing, 100 octane gas, and Redline Water-Wetter coolant additive). Don't ask me how I know.
Edit: I forgot 2001 Civics were D17, but it's not any tougher than the D16.

my boy blew his D17 on a 65 shot. we just got through rebuilding it. he had colder plugs....but stock fuel pressure and timinig. took about 8 months b4 this happened.
You can only blow your intake manifold if your using a wet shot. A dry shot will not explode in your intake or the manifold. Nitrous doesn't burn, its nitrous and fuel + spark = explosion. I would personally never run a single nozzle wet kit, just a dry (zex)or even better a direct port(witch is a wet kit directly plumbed into the intake manifold

go with the zex system there are 3 interchangable plugs that come with them. use the 50 shot for safety reasons. also ngk makes a 1 step colder plug as well to use.

spray that bitch...150 shot
be safe with a 50 shot, it will be enough to hang with most cars, perhaps even beat them. good luck with the decision.
Like somone else said, the ZEX kit will not work on the new civics because of the FPR location(fuel pressure regulator) its located in the back next to the gas tank. Its also electronic not vaccumed and u need a vaccum to run to the Zex box(brain)

the pics of the manifold blown up was my friend 01 civic lx auto, I was with him. he was using a 50 shot/wet, stomped on it from a stand still and had a n02 backfire, scared the livin poop out of me. I wouldn't do it. He looked all over for a different manifold also, he couldn't find one. Do a search on my user name, probably archived you'll see the thread.
