Default 2002 Civic SI Shifting Issues

Hi everyone,

My problem started a couple of weeks ago. I got off of work, and immediately I had trouble shifting into third, fourth or fifth gear. It got to the point where I could not move the shifter to the right more than halfway in the neutral position. I moved the shifter *** around for ten minutes or so until it came loose and it shifted like normal. I took it to the dealer, they couldn't replicate the problem, so they sent me on my way.

I had the same problem a few days later. Could not move the shifter to the right. No grinding noises. Nothing. It even happened when the car wasn't turned on. I moved the shifter around a bit, trying to shift, then it came free and I was unable to shift into first without first going into second gear, then quickly into first. Eventually I was able to shift into first without a problem. I took it to the dealer again, they tried to give me the run around saying that civic SI's sometimes have trouble shifting and my situation is normal. I've been driving the car for 6 years - this isn't normal. He said short of pulling the transmission apart and costing me a bunch of money, there's nothing he can do. He says even if it is the shift linkage, it's internal so it's still going to cost a lot of money.

The car's stock, nothing added to it. Regular maintenance.

Any thoughts? Is there a TSB out on this? (I know there's one for the 6 speed but that doesn't help me).

Thanks!
