Default GS-R vs. Type R So what?

I know I'm in the wrong section to be posting this message, but I thought I'd ask you the people that drive these cars everyday. I have a 01 GS-R and was wondering what makes the type R kick so hard at 6000 rpms. Now my gs-r does some *** kickin when it hits 6000 but I drove my friends type r and was just speechless. So what is it that makes them kick so hard?

The better ports, cams, and closer-geared tranny...to say the least. There's not much weight difference between the 00/01 R & 00/01 LS/GSR--35lbs is it.

nothing special about that kick, once tuned and vtec lowered, it will be much faster. the vtec kicks in late for better daily driving..

Different intake manifold, ECU tuning, little higher compression, lighter flywheel, ... probably a few other smaller things as well.

So, you liked it?

the "kick" @ 5700 in an R is called vtec. the "kick" in gsr's @ 5900 is the secondaries in the i.m opening. vtec already kicked in @4400.

Basically the GSR is made to be smooth and eases you into its power. The ITR saves up everything for the 5,600rpm mark.

Good choice on mods...i dunoed at 173.4 with just the intake..so youd be right there with me.....dont forget about the LSD the R's have though..id have a slight edge form a stop...and i think the R's difference in weight is more like a lil over 100lbs...just look at the sunroof....they lost 70 sumfin lbs by subtracting that alone...tis what car and driver said...the whole assembly was like 70 sumfin..

the gsr has secondary runners...their intake manifold has dual runners while the R has singer runners...

Correct....which is why peeps with GSR's switch out their intake manifolds for ours..super easy and gives better power

Hmmm let me guess, after using our headers, our cams, and our size TB, your 4'6" tall & weigh 95lbs that way you match the weight difference in the cars + my 200lb fat ***?

hehehe - hang what you will. You should have bought the damn R in the first place & saved some money - try taking a corner w/o the lsd (oh wait - that's another $1200 option to add). If you can "hang" peachy for you...I can't count the number of cars that are bigger, faster, stronger than the R that don't "hang" including modified GSR's.

Oh well - I'll shut up now - I just thought it was funny when the newbie decides to post in our forum that he can hang

George, I believe Jeff and I have met on 3 occassions (the Expos and at Deal's Gap).

Luckily, things turned out "A OK" for me at the "Gap".
It was nice to have a witness to my "Mad Skillz", though it did earn me the nickname of "Crazy Ed" there for a while.
Though, he did say something about feeling like he was wearing a "bulls eye" ....

Thats because the guy you raced sucked. I've seen a gsr with just i/e beat an R also with an i/e. Take a faster car and give it to a crappy driver and its not gonna be as fast as it should.

True, I hear a few of the mount holes need to be re-drilled.
