Default Motor oil question please HELP!!!

So I went to buy motor oil for my dads van and the under the hood it says to use 5w-30 and so I went to Karen and buy the oil but the guy over there says that if the motor has close to 200,000 miles on it then he would reconmen 10w30 cause it's much thicker. So I was just wondering if it was true like what he said or should I go with what it says under the hood in the future if his was to happen again?

I would just buy a 5w-30 made for high mileage like the green castro oil.

use 5w30. bearings are either good or not good. They don't generally wear that much. You could add some Lucas oil stabilizer if you are concerned, that stuff makes it stick on stuff better.

Unless its burning oil, there is no reason to change to something thicker.
