Default Baseline dyno inside,thoughts/advice request...

Hey guys, got a few pulls on the dyno the other day.

'00 B16a2
MemoryFab whale ***** intake
new stock NGK iridium plugs and blue wires
'01 spec ITR intake and exhaust cam
DC 4-2-1 header (2.31")
Megan resonated test pipe
Greddy Ti-C catback exhaust

untuned whatsoever on stock P2T ECU

What do you guys think my next step should be? Should I be dissapointed with these numbers?

considering those numbers are untuned and uncorrected, they look about right. Your actual power is less than indicated here. If you want your engine to last and make more power, your next step should be some sort of tuning system like Neptune, Hondata etc.

That is my next move, should i move it to the tuning forum or can i ask questions here?

I'm not sure what program to use, what would be the best bang for the buck? I know alot of people say s300 but honestly, all of the parts on this motor combined cost less than an s300

I would see what your tuner likes but many people seem to like Crome for inexpensive tuning. You could aways look in the tuning section and talk to a couple forum sponsers about your options. But like I already said, the tuner you use usually determines what's best to go with since he's the one who will be doing all the tuning.

I just went with Chrome, they basically all put out the same whp but hondata has tuning per gear and a bunch of boost and nitrous functionality. Chrome is not the best by any means but gets the job done for cheap all motor builds.

the guy that did the dyno, also does tuning. He recommends the S300 but it's just not in my price range.

Where should i look for these chips? I see a whole bunch on the local forums like "chipped P28" etc etc, is it safe to buy used?

I've found that tuners that recommend a certain system are more competent at that particular system. If he recommends s300, he's probably more comfortable with it and you may end up with a better tune. I know that it's expensive. I bought a P72 ECU with an s300 install used for about $500. Yes, it's expensive, but tuning is so much more flexible. The ECU is updated live, so there's no burning and re-burning of chips. Which may save you money in tuning time. Just something to consider.

Yeah I think it was getting too much flow from the tip of the exhaust because there's no cat....

Tuning is tuning, regardless of the EMS. The only differences are the extra's you get; boost per gear, launch control ect. This is assuming that the tuner knows his way around the software.

Gotcha, I'll most likely go with crome since it is the most available used on the forums and the cheapest.

Do you guys think i should make any part changes before i get it tuned? Different header? Should i invest in an IM/TB?

ditch the whale ***** for a true CAI, probly gain 2-5hp just from that if not more, not to mention the tq you'd get back from that sri.

Thanks everyone, I'll be on the lookout for a diff. intake, possibly different header as well...

What kind of power do you guys think I'll be able to get from tuning? +10hp? 15?

those numbers seem low imo. I have a jdm b16a with just CAI, strup 4-1 header, and apexi ws2 exhaust and i laid down 156whp untuned.

Irrelevant, sense you can't compare different dyno charts.

You obviously found a magically happy dyno. Take it to the track if you want a dose of reality.

Idk,I've gone through the whole dyno thread like 3 times and there's a guy with pretty much the same exact setup and he's making 155,tuned. I was a little disappointed but hopefully with a tune I can get around 160whp

what do you guys think? Is that figure reasonable?

The point is that anyone can find a "happy dyno" to give them high numbers, that doesn't mean that's the absolute final word as to how much power you're actually making. Taking it to the drag strip will quickly seperate the good feelings from the dyno numbers.

The dyno is a tuning tool, not gospel. Even if you managed to hit 160whp fully tuned in your car, I can assure you that your car won't be making that much power with the mods you currently have. Use the dyno as it's intended, TUNING, and go to the track if you want hard numbers.

The quarter mile track scares me, I snapped 2 axles in 2 weeks the last time I went. Granted that was when I still had the stock mounts which were shot to hell, I haven't gone since i've put the 75a innovative mounts in

You snapped axles with the mods you had listed? You are doing something terribly wrong. Where you just dropping your clutch?

I'd say he was either running slicks and dumping the clutch at the rev limiter or he had violent wheel hop on the launches to do that.
